I had this build in the works for a while now. I finally got time to get around to it. (My father's day gift early):D.
Well I custom built this from the header back including making my own fairing brackets and all. (I didnt want to molest my original pipe just in case.)

Well let me tell you it is F***ing Awsome! I love the sound of this thing. It has a good deep sound to it and is not too loud at all going down the road. I was quite surprised. I was expecting a lot louder. (The videos do no justice to this thing.

Mocking it up.

Completed all the fab work including the fairing brackets.

Here it is all painted. I have the chrome tips taped up. I wanted the chrome on the very tips.

Here is the pipe and fairing all mounted up. (I amthinking about adding a little pin stipe down the side in red. What do you guys think?)

And of cource here are some videos. ( I do not know why it hesitated to start on the first try, but it will do that every now and then. I plan on doing some tuning here in the future.)

So give me your guys feedback. I am open to all good and bad. I will try to answer any questions some of you might have also.

Oh ya, IPhone pictures suck too. Thats what im blaming the blur on.:p

I might. I haven't thought too much or checked into availability of the muffler parts for production. If you guys are interested I can start trying to see what I can do.

Good job! I know I enjoyed hacking my stock muffler and I bet it feels even better to completely fab one.

Interested to see what they would cost???

Only thing I would change is the front pipe to a Y-pipe style, thisis to aid the right side to help even out the exhaust pressure between the two pipes. The way you have it set up I would heavily bet almost all the exhaust is exiting out the left side pipe and the right has very little to actually do with the sound or airflow.

Example with my shitty paint skills

or unless there is something inside like this-

p.s. My paint skills are obviously far superior to xlows

Constructive Criticism here: Do any of you guys who build these mufflers care about having a nice flow path or any backpressure? These glasspack homebuilds are worse than Jardine's backpressure loss.

Yes a true y pipe would have been ideal, but I just didnt have the room or the right stuff to make a true one. I did how ever do what macbuell was talking about. I have it set up inside to have a slightly smaller opening inside the straight pipe than the bent pipe. I put a wind guage behind both pipes and they were both pretty damn close to even.
Baja, I realized in the build that there would be a little back preasure loss. I built a power cone into this before the y in the pipe to help. Also the mufflers actually have a lot smaller opening through them than I expected as well. I cant really tell any change in power or torque down low, but there is definitly an increase on top end. I would confidently say that there is pretty close to the same amount of back preasure in my pipe that all the gutted ones have.

Thanks for the comments good and bad. Keep them coming. If I can source the stuff again, I will look at building a few. Of course the criticism helps improve the design and gives me more ideas.

I really can tell on the bottom end either way. The butt dyno says a pretty good increase on top end. Not real sure of actual #s. I never rode it hard to begin with. I was mainly going for sound and not really performance. I made sure in the build to try and keep from loosing anything though. I am really pleased with the outcome. I wasn't sure on the sound since most glass packs I have heard are usually real poppy sounding bit this thing has a food deep muscle tone to it.

tuneport- That looks strangely familiar LOL. Good job on it though. Looks like you bought the same glasspacks that I did for mine.

Ya I had already ordered allt he stuff when you posted yours. I did steal your rear mount idea though. :p I got mine off of Ebay from some place in maryland. I like them best because the pipe ends were not welded to the mufflers. They were just the chambers with the pipes seperate. Adds alot of flexability to the build.

.

Maryland Mustang. Same exact items probably. I'm thinkin about going with their 14" or 18" packs to deepen the tone. Did you get the 2"ID?

Two great minds think alike. LoL I was seriously thinking "this guy is going to think I copied him" when I seen your post. Even though o had ordered everythin about 2 months before you posted yours. Oh well small world o guess. Either way I think we have a bad asssounding set up on ours. :p
