You could give Hard Anodizing a try.
Hard Anodizing - Anodizing that requires a high current density and low-temperature electrolytes. Hard anodizing results in coatings that are resistant to corrosion, abrasion, and erosion.
It's supposed to be more resistant than some painted finishes and is probably the type of anodizing they use on the translucent wheels. You can probably protect the finish even more by applying a clearcoat on top of the anodizing.
