Another exhaust question........ yes I've researched..

Ok, I am looking for a LOUD harley like sound. I had an 03 XB9S with a D&D exhaust, which sounded awesome. BUT, is there anything a littler louder that still sounds harley-like? I'm not concerned with loosing performance (oh no!!). I pulled the muffler off my new 03 XB9s and it sounds amazing with no muffler but, I would prefer not to replace burned valves every few hundred miles..

I've read the exhaust shootout and to me, every one of those mp3s sound alike, theres nothing like hearing it in person.
I've read countless posts, and searched with no definative answer. Some say Jardin is the loudest, others say D&D. What about the FORCE race exhaust?

Help before I say screw it, and drive open headers!!

I would think that in order to get open header sound, you would just do open headers. Tune it right and you should be OK. You'll loose torque, is that ok with you?

Micron Exhaust, if you can find one.

If all you care about is sound put on some type of small race muffler for a car like the Dynomax Bullet or something then tune to suit.

No matter what, to get the aggressive sounds you want you will need a tune so anything will do. I have always like Dynomax since they are loud but retain the rumble, unlike the hollow sound you may get with something like a Flownaster.

I have been wanting a set of straight pipes too. There is a video on youtube of a yellow xb9r with custom pipes. They are duals that run all the way back to right in front of the tire. Check it out. Actually this is the video that made me buy a buell.

Outstanding, thanks for the replies and the vid. Now another question, what else do I HAVE to do in order to run straight pipes compared to say the force pipes or D&D pipes. Am I gonna have to do the K&N/custom airbox and buy some sort of fuel computer plus dyno tuning or would the buell race computer be sufficiant? Sorry for the newb questions, I've been working alot and am in the proccess of moving so I don't have the time to do the research as I would like to. Any info would be GREATLY appreciated.

I know with my Sporty I ran custom made straight pipes and they were about 20 inches long each, and I did just fine. (it was carberated so it's different. I had to go to a big jet and air filter) Check it....

Be prepared for ear bleeding loud at highway speeds, and I sure hope you don't have noise ordinances there.

I used to get pulled over all the time with my straight pipes

Yeah Key word Carberation makes tuning so much easier for straight pipes. Damn if these pipes were on an XB, I would be scared of flames on my leg haha

I do know from what I have found that there are not atraight pipes available directly for the buells. All of the ones I have seen have been custom jobs that have been hand built. If someone knows of some aftermarket ones, please let us know. I am pretty sure I am not the only ones who would like to get their hands on a set.

I'm gona see if I can get ahold of a guy with a mandrel bender and see if We could possibly fab a set for my bike.. if all goes well maybe sell a few sets.. Its a long shot but since I have no job at the moment I could try doing something lol.
