I don't want to be stuck showing my kids or my grandkids a picture like this one explaining what a Buell was :(

Here's my typical conversation with someone.

"Oh, you ride? What kind of bike do you have?"

:D
A Buell

[confused]
"A what?"

:)
A Buell

[confused]
"What's that?"

[cool]
It's a streetfighter that used to be made by Harley.

[confused]
"Uhhh, ok." "Never heard of it."

Son this is a motorcycle that was made here in the United States
Really dad they made things here? I thought everything came from overseas.
Well son nothing is made in the United States now this was one of the last.
Son Harley at one time was based out of Milwaukee before they moved overseas
Wow dad times sure have changed

I've gotten the Ducati comment once. They'll be back. Question is, how many people will actually buy one besides the regular enthusiasts?

If not, I guess we're all riding future collectibles.

I've already started telling people that my buell is a collector bike, still most folks don't know what it is,but like a lot of you I think buell may come back.

I talked to Erik Buell tonight on facebook and he says that hopefully there will be a bike that I can trade my XB in for lol. Seems even he is holding hope for the future! Good to know!

LMFAOOOO that made my day :D [up]

In a way its frustrating having to explain what a Buell is to someone but its also nice knowing I've got a bike that's somewhat rare

i also get the ducati comment quite often when i've got the firebolt out. i had my lightning out last week and stopped to check out new riding gear at the yamaha/honda shop and, i got "that's a nice looking speed triple" from one of the guys in the shop. i told him it was a buell. he turned to one of the other salesman across the shop and said "i told you it was a buell." then they all wanted to go out and look at it and see if i was ready to trade it in for an R1... i just laughed.

Owning a Buell is like explaining why a joke is funny to someone. If you have to explain it to them, they just won't get it!

I was able to convince few people that my 03 lightning is a custom made sports bike after they asked what it was :D

My boss's wife rides a harley...he asked what i ride i told him it's a "Buell" he looks at me funny and says "aint that a harley knock off"[mad]

Wow, this is a serious possibility, and very depressing.

Ever notice the wheels on our Buells are made in China? As much as I love my Buell, and respect and admire Erik Buell and Co. for the XB, it saddens me that ALL the parts of our Buells couldn't be made right here in the USA.

I dunno, I make my living servicing BMWs, so maybe a "global" economy is the new way of thinking.

I'm trying to change my perspective, but I do like the idea of supporting my local economy.

I can just feel another sport bike coming from Erik's recent and future endeavors ... you know it's coming in a few years or so!! :)

Explaining what a Buell is makes me cry, lol. Like ... people just don't get it.

"So it's a Harley?"
"Noooo ... Harley bought the controlling share of the Erik's company in the late '90s and basically limited the outcome of race fuel-soul company until it eventually drove it out of business and shut them down."
"Ohhh ... so it's Harley's sport bike."

That comment pisses me off more and more. Harley had nothing to do with the sport bike aspect of the Buells ... they despised it. They held it back. They put it down.

I now just say it's an American sport bike company with its origins deeply rooted in racing that was funded by Harley and shared their showrooms. That's it.

I was helping my GF's family with their annual neighborhood garage/yard sale and her parent's friend sees my CR sitting in the driveway.

"Whatcha got there?"
"Oh, I just picked it up in December ... fantastic handling bike. It's a Buell 1125CR."
"I know what it is. Here," as he gives me some keys, "open up my shed and take a look at a real bike. Harley."
"No thanks, I'm about to go out on a 150 mile ride on the back roads. Have fun in the shed polishing."

I was so pissed that he made that comment, but I bit my lip and didn't say any more, lol. DAMNIT. What I should have said was ...

"Ohhhh ... so you're a cruiser. That's cool. But you see my muscles and joints haven't turned to dust yet, so I need something da little more, shall we say, exhilarating. The 1125 is race-proven, race-engineered, race-tested, and race-equipped ... by a racer. I could take it as it sits right there, safety wire a few components and fasteners, tape up the glass/plastic lenses, and hit the track and absolutely tear. it. up. It is faster in a straight line, a curved line, and a looped line than any Harley. Ever. It handles better in every shape and form. But no, you're right: the flat spot on your 130 rear tire tell me that you have the ultimate, straight-up, no turn cruiser. Tell how your next golf game is when you meet Harley's CEO after you trailer your bikes to the course."

I feel better.
