Does this sound funky? It's been awhile since I've been around a Buell with stock exhaust. I haven't changed the oil or adjusted the primary or change the transmission oil or anything in this yet but I just think it sounds a little clunky. Thoughts?

I guess I should add for clarity that this is a 2006 xb12x with 10400 miles on it no modifications. I have just purchased it. seems to be very clean. The engine sounds absolutely great when revved and held at revs, but just noticing a an occasional weird clunk or clatter at idle.

Sounds ok to me. I’ve never had an XB that didn’t make weird noises.

It does sounds like it is idling a bit slow/uneven. Maybe bringing up the idle speed will smooth it out and get a bit more oil flowing?

Yeah, 34:19 the idle is a bit low, that had crossed my mind too. I dunked a magnet in the swing arm and didn't find any metal. I did a "thorough" screw driver to the ear inspection and as far as I could tell all the noise was typical Harley sewing machine.

I spent the first year of buell ownership adjusting my primary chain (previously owned Japanese bikes) because of the “terrible” noise it made. Best fix so far, aftermarket exhaust :p

So, did a service on the bike and checked everything over. Oil came out free of any glitter, so that's good. I pulled the oil pump and inspected the drive gear, it looks marvelous. I did find that the primary chain was a bit loose and does seem to sound a lil quieter now I think. So yeah I think it's all good just me being paranoid.

I do my primary chain adjustment with the bike running. OG style.
With the bike warm and idling, loosen until it gets louder, count the turns to tighten until it gets louder (it will first get quiet) and back it off 1/2 the difference. Sweet spot goodness:eagerness:

Yep... ^^^ works for me, blast style. I hoist up the rear wheel and manually turn the engine over in 5th gear looking for the tight spot. Adjust it there for a small 1/2 inch. No burnt fingers BUT would it have killed HDMC to have an easier way to turn over the motor. My punney arms ache for days after.

I like to start the bike up, turn the primary adjuster in, until the engine starts to stall. Then I back out the adjuster a 1/4 turn. I get the biggest wrench I have and crank the lock nut as tight as I can. :)
