Alright so, as i was looking around the forum, i saw some costum paint bikes, really nice projects some guys done. Well first im not planing on painting my bike anytime soon, but in the future i would like to play a little bit with colors, so my question, ( never tore any bike down like engine, trany, tires etc) would it be a good idea if i just go ahed and i just start parting bike, its not that i dont know anything about bikes but there is the first time for everything, i have some knowledge and pretty handy when im not lazy lol... What do you guys think, first i guess ive got to do the tires which i dont think is a really big deals, saw some videos how to, than the big thing is the frame[confused] how am i going to part out the engine from the frame to powder coat it!? WhAt do you guys think?

I painted mine last week with a couple cans of dupli-color it turned out pretty good. Check my busy day working on the bike post.

I put a floor jack under the front of my engine and used a rear stand under the swingarm. Pulled the frame off the top. Pretty sure u can use a regular motorcycle/atv jack to support the engine so u can pull the swingarm and frame.

Should hold up for some time I'm going to give it a few more coats then hit it with a good clear it's more about prep work than paint. If you scuff the frame well it sticks well don't scuff it up the paint will peal off. Letting the paint cure completely is also key. I spilled gas on it today came home and cleaned it off and it didn't hurt it any. It's the brake fluid you have to watch out for.

I see, so few coats should e fine i guess... Can u peel this dupli color, because if i scuff it, and if i ruin the paint, i might have to peel it off, than all the scuffs will come out, hope i could peel this coat easy so once i get bored of it i change or go back to original color.

With mine I will have to sand it off its on there. If you scuff up the frame it won't peel. l used 600 grit wet dry sandpaper. If you think your going to want to go back to stock color later I wouldn't change it. American sport bike of Southern California has rattle cans of the stock frame colors. I changed mine because of the damage it had from before I bought it and it was faded some in places. I picked a GM color that would be easier to match later down the road.

Yea im not sure yet what im going to do with my xb9, i would like to keep it stock since is all stock and its like new with only 800 miles, i have to decide either get another buell and work on it and play with it, because this one i got right now its in very good condition and i think its hard to get one like that since they dont make them nomore, btw its a 2003
