My friend got a xb9s and i have a xb12r. I love my bike but i really like the look if the lighting seat. I know people have done the swap using all the lighting parts, but i want to just use the seat and mod the firebolt rear end. I know it would be a lot of work but i havent seen it done before and i think it would awesome. I took some pics of his seat on my bike and it looks do able. Would have to cut a few inches out of the plastic and fiberglass it back together. Would also have to cut the rear sub frame to get the rear latch to line up. Any thoughts on my idea?

Yikes, I think it would be cool, but I think you'd have a lot more modifying to do. Cutting the subframe, sectioning out a few inches out of the tail piece, and you'll probably have issues with the crossbar that is between the battery and the storage compartment under the passenger seat.

Definitly a cool idea, just not sure of all the logistics.

Keep us posted.

thank you for that. How did u get it to show up with no banner?

Ya i know it will be a lot of work but i was looking at the cross section and it didnt look like it would get in the way. I would only have a few inches left of the passenger seat under tray. The hard part is going to be making the plastic line up and look factory and not a hack job

I just happened to post low enough in the thread to get below it. When you use Photobucket to post pics, the banners end up overlapping at the beginning of the post causing it not to recognize/resize the text also. Just a site qwerk.

If you click on the "My Pics" button at the top and upload your picture to that area, you can add it to your post by clicking the "Add Your Photo" button above the posting box. This will size it right to eliminated the banner issue.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my firebolt..If you do the mod, it would be great to see photos of the process....

Thanks,
Fourty...

i want to pretty much do the same thing, but im going to just swap to the s frame and seat so there is no need to cut anything:D

you can buy the rails, or find a donor on this site who wants to switch opposite of you, there are few write ups on how this goes

yes i know this, but i want something that no one else has. =) i like to be different, plus i think it would be a fun project and would look awesome!! I have to find a seat for cheap before i start the project.

I'm wondering if you might have an easier time with an SS seat. Then it wouldn't have that gap at the end. Will the seat clear all the electrics that will be under it? That would be more of a project that cutting the fairing up.

Definitely seems like a good project. You might do well to see if you can find a spare xbr tail instead of chopping up yours, and might even benefit from getting a spare xbr subframe incase you need to cut it and have it rewelded to fit everything right.

it might be easier with the ss seat but the whole reason for doing this is bcs i like the short look of the s seat. Im going to have my friend come back over and im going to take me plastic off. Then set his seat on and see what it will take to make it line up.
