Well, I'm going to go the Hooligan Mod route on this one. Just picked up a pair of black 06 GS500 rims/tires to put on it. As far as I know I'll need to get new bearings, make new spacers, and make relocation brackets. Just wish it would warm up so I could spend some time working on it.

My friend races supermoto he has a KTM 450SM and his Street bike is a KTM 625SM. I have a XR650L that is my do all bike. I was going to turn it into a SM but I decided to leave it alone because I have the XB12S. I like the advantage of having two different bikes because each of them give me different opportunities. Bikes are like tools. You got to have the right tool for the job. Now if I can only convince my wife of that.

gbalias: how would you describe riding the DRZ after riding all the other converted 400s??

I still think I'll end up with a DRZ, but after looking around a bit and seeing all the other bikes out there that weigh 230lbs and make 50+hp, I wonder if I pick up a DRZ(290lbs/35hp) I wonder if I'm just gonna be wanting more. Is the drz comparable, or is it a whole different ride from your other bikes?

Luckily I have a friend with a DRZsm, so once it warms up I'll get a chance to give one a good test ride. Good news is that my tax return came already, so I can use that to pay off the XB, and then all I've gotta wait for is warm enough weather to repaint the GS500 so I can sell it and start looking for a supermoto. I try to take care of my XB, so I can't wait to have a bike I don't feel bad about beating the piss out of.

Sounds like we got similar stories Maiden. First I owned a GS500, then bought an XB, sold the GS500, bought a DRZ. If you're going to be converting a DRZ to SM then you may consider keeping the wheels of the GS500 unless you want to drop the cash for spoked wheels.

I don't think I'd mess with converting a DRZ, there are plenty of DRZ-SMs around. The one bike I would be interested in converting would be a wr450f but it would depend on how much I found a WR for. I'm not looking to spend a ton on a bike I plan on beating like that. I wonder if wr250x wheels would fit on the 450f. That would make for an easy and cheap conversion.

Gotta keep the wheels on the GS though. No need to split up a complete bike and trying to sell it without the wheels.

Just transferred the title on my new bike yesterday :D

Unfortunately between all the complications like not owning a truck, notaries only being open until 6-6:30, and massive rain storms last night that kept flooding areas and floating peoples cars away, all I got to do was go check out the bike and do the paperwork. Tomorrow me and a friend are riding down and one of us will drive back and the other will ride the bike back. It's a 2001 yz426 and it even comes with all the stock dirt parts so I'm pretty excited about it. I got to borrow my friends DRZ400sm while he was on vacation the other week. I had a great time once I got the hang of the bike, but the lack of power was a huge letdown. This bike should have a bit more pickup, and the 60 less pounds will be a nice touch.

The picture sucks, but it was just the picture on the craigslist ad.
