Hi All,

First post. I have a 2005 XB9SX. I actually think the OEM lights are quite bright now, but I do love the HIDs in my cars. I found these H7 bulb HID conversion kits on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...TRK:MEWAX:IT&item=170317727030#ht_5796wt_1191

These look of decent high quality judging by the amount of information on their ad. Has anyone ever tried these? Were you able to fit both slim-sized ballasts behind the number plate?

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

I say go for it not sure to many buellers have them but it is always nice to see someone step outside of the lines on their own.

I say find another on ebay. You should be able to find 2 bulbs and ballasts instead of one for that price.

Thanks guys. I did find another one that was a pair of H7 conversion HID bulbs for $99 shipped. However, the ad copy in the EFX listing I posted above has some compelling points on why theirs is better. I'm in product development and it sounds like the copy was written by an engineer who has some experience with poor Chinese manufacturing. When I sent a message to EFX they came back with a cost of $149 delivered for two of their H7 conversion kits.

I just popped off the number plate and it looks like there should be space for the slim-type ballasts, which are supposed to be around .75 x 3 x 2 inches each.

I'm going to go ahead with it and post pictures of the install. Wish me luck!

Not sure if you ordered yours yet, but I know of lots of Buellers including myself who have had great luck with Starrotors.com's HID's They look almost identical to then ones you listed.
They come out to be just under $100 shipped for the pair. I have only had them for a week, but know others who have been running them much longer with no problems at all.
Just wanted to give you a cheaper solution if you have not already ordered.

Thats the same brand I have. I still need to install mine. I did, however, also purchase a relay for mine, so it can be wired directly to the battery. I'm told the power needed to initially ignite the ballast can cause melting of the stock wires eventually. The relay should solve this.

Jornum1 - thanks for the comment. I was indeed also looking at the Starrotors HID. It's $50 cheaper. The specs of the EFX appear to be slightly brighter (3800 lumens for the 6000K color temp vs. 3200 lumens at the same 6000K color temp) and they claim to be QC'd very well. How about marko138's comments about the stock wires melting without a relay? Did you also use a relay or are you using the kit as it came from Starrotor?

Thanks again!

Jeff

I am using the stock wiring. I asked the same question to a few people who are running the starrotors kit. They all said they have not had any problems running it from the stock wiring. I did run a switch off the fuse block to turn the lights off. I have heard that turning them on and off quickly can burn out the ballast. When you push the ignition button the lights shut down, to save power I assume. Plus its good for when are using ecmspy or just idling so you dont blind bystanders ;-)

when you are getting an HID kit don;t cheap out on them. You get what you pay for and with HID's you can buy cheap ones but they will not last long at all. Especially putting them in your bike because they bounce around alot so good quality is key. I bought a slim ballast HID from xenonrider.com Great quality and no problems so far.
Here are some pictures of what it looks like. I only bought once since having one low HID bulb will be better than my hi beam light.

Wow, what a difference!! So HID it is when I get my Buell!! Now how do you get both lights to come on the same time? I did that, would I get a two bulb light kit for each light? That way one bulb is low beam and the other is high beam!

I have had the EFX brand in 3 bikes now without any problems. Kawasaki / Yamaha / Buell now I'm going to order another pair for my Lightning. Easy install and super bright. Very high quality and great customer service! I order the wrong bulb type once. They sent me a new set really fast!
