So in the process of dropping my oil pump to check the drive gear, the rear line input stripped out a bit. I got the line back in, but it's not tight enough to make me feel great about it. That being said, I am looking for an oil pump for my 2004 xb12r. Or better yet, I am looking for just the bottom cover to an oil pump. Can anyone hook me up?

so the adapter piece that goes into the pump stripped or the pump side?

if it's the pump side you could probably tap it, if it's the adapter you could probably get a new adapter

It's the cover on the pump, not the fitting that screws into the pump. I can do some wrenching, but I've never had to tap anything before. Would they sell the tap at Lowe's or where could I pick one up?

You could buy a Heli-Coil, or similar, kit. They are super easy to use, basically you drill out the stripped threads with a drill whose size is specified and usually included in the kit, tap the hole (which is basically just like screwing in a bolt, though kerosens as a lubricant is recommended when tapping into aluminium) with the supplied tap in the kit, then once you've tapped the hole you screw in a supplied helical stainless steel sleeve (it looks like a really tightly wound spring and the tool to do it with comes in the kit) whose outside threads engage the threads you just tapped and whose inside threads are identical to the original ones that got stripped (and stronger than the original aluminium ones). This way you don't need to find an adaptor as you would if you drilled the hole out & tapped it bigger.
They also sell just the thread coils, but if I were you I would buy the whole kit which includes the tap, drill bit, installation tool and inserts.
All you need is the kit, an electric or cordless drill, a steady hand and you're good to go :)

OldGeezer, thanks mucho for the thorough explanation. I'll see if I can get that straightened out this weekend. I guess it's true, old geezers have a little wisdom.

Hey thanks txrenegade, and you're welcome. If I posess any wisdom it comes from making so many mistakes :) Good luck and keep the shiny side up and rubber side down

Just a few days late Eville_Al. I tracked one down and got it on two days ago. Thanks though.

And just for the record, the fitting is pipe thread (tapered) so it cannot be Heli-coiled. I ended up just replacing the cover thanks to buellsterparts.
