If you have seen any of my other threads, I broke one of the front exhaust studs in my XB. There was a small amount of the stud sticking out of the head so I welded a nut to it...and it broke again with a minimal amount of applied torque.

So, now I need to drill the stud out.

Does anyone have an exhaust stud drill plates I can borrow?

Thanks.

weld the nut on again. i have done many broken studs this way. use the next size up nut like a 3/8 weld it hot and fill the nut. let it cool then unscrew it. if you cant get it that way drill a hole deep in the bolt extra deep then hammer a torx bit in and unscrew it. if the torx bit breaks pound another one in and un screw it.(why you drilled it deep)

I'm not using a bolt extractor or easy out. If the thing breaks, I'm super fawked.

Squid, I recall you detailed how to do it with the flange when I originally broke the thing. I still have that in mind. I would just be more comfortable using the drill plate.

My thought with that set is that I would still need an effective means to guide the bit...unless I'm wrong.

Bought the drill plate tool.

good choice. i have a drill jig as well but didnt see this thread until just now. also great insight on not using an extractor or easy out. they cause more problems than they are worth most times.
