i was thinking of buying a talk systm to talk with my wife while riding,it would be nice to hear some tunes too. any suggestions on what i should buy?

I have a G4. Its really nice if you go on long trips as you can talk to each other. We use it to keep a watch in the large cities or if we are needing to stop. I don't really see the big deal with talking to the wife while riding....but to each their own. On the g4 I usually have my ipod hooked up to it and if she needs to talk it will kick over and pause my music...then when she is done it will automatically kick back over to my music and continue playing. The quality of tunes isn't exactly the best but it does give some background music without deafening you or canceling out all external noises. The range is great. Even in larger cities we can get about 20 car lengths apart and not have a problem at all with hearing each other.

I've always been curious how well those things work so I appreciate you asking the question chevnut. I guess I've always wondered if it was worth the cost....those things aren't cheap.

My only hold back is being able to understand someone over my exhaust... is the sound quality good enough to understand clearly at hiway speeds?

Yes very much so. My wife and I took a 500 mile trip in one day. Battery held up almost the entire way...minus about 15 miles. Even with my hawk exhaust and open intake I could clearly make out what she was saying. The key to being able to hear the other person is if they put their mic in the right spot. As far as music at highway speeds I could clearly understand and enjoy the music but the speakers don't have much bass to them so they sound pretty flat at higher volumes.

if she tells me to pull over im horney i dont want to miss it! really it would be nice to tell what we are pointing at or that we are going the wrong way etc...i can always turn it off if she talkes too much.
i had a cheepie from e bay for $50. but it did not work so good.but that was 10 years ago.
