In 2000 I used to set up buells at a dealer. They had crazy torque, couldnt keep the front wheel on the ground. I looked at a stock 08 with 4800 miles on it today and it was a real dog. Huge disappointing difference then the ones I rode in 2000. Do you have to pour some money in em to get the power out or is there a chip that needs upgraded. My little blast seemed quicker when I got back on it. The guy wants 3900 for it, but I want to know what I gotta do to unleash some hp.

I'm sure that bike isn't really set up motor wise any different than my 03 xb9r and my bike runs like a raped ape.

My bet is it was running on one cylinder from a fouled spark plug. Would definitely make it act like a dog lol

both the blast and xb9 are dogs.the blast would be a quadriplegic shih tzu and the 9 a gray hound.:D

lol.....yeh there was definately something wrong with it. they guy did say he never changed the back plug cuz he couldnt reach it. i bet its fouled. i do recall hearing a few pops, it was pretty faint since it had that stock pipe on it.

There's no way the blast felt quicker.

its not that theres a ton of torque in these to get the front wheel off the ground, just has a 72 tooth rear sprocket compared to the 65 on the twelve. for a rear sprocket this is GIANT, so it may feel torque, but really isn't. i wouldnt buy a 9, ever. when the 12 is just a better bike all around IMO

I've heard alot of people who prefer the 984cc over the 1203cc motor. It's smoother without the longer stroke and it spins faster.

Even though my bike isn't the fastest out there, it "feels" the fastest in regular street riding...

I can tell very little difference between the 9's and 12's I've ridden. Never ridden a blast.

Sometimes, for me at least, if I can't experience it myself it helps to see something that quantifies it so I have a frame of reference. Here is an exhaust comparison that does just that:

Buell XB and 1125 Exhaust Shootout Results

This will show you exactly how much power an XB9 has, which definitely not what I would consider to be "dog" like:

Buell XB9 Results
Stock Map, Stock Exhaust: 65.27ft-lbs peak torque @ 5400 RPM, 79.61* peak RWHP at 6800* RPM

*Premature Redline Cutoff

I've owned one of each and I beg to differ. I enjoyed the smoother, revier nature of the 9 quite a bit more. If I were to buy another Buell it would be a 9, without a doubt.

this, my buddies 9r seems to run much nicer than my 12r. not that i dont love my 12, but the 9s seem to run better.

I love my 9 if I wanted faster I would by an R1 which I might do down the road but anyways I've never road a 12 but have road with them and had NO PROBLEM keeping up . One of the guys from on here I rode with said my 9 was pulling away from him both taking off from a roll . Granted his was pretty much stock besides gutted exhaust and mine has exhaust, race map, & deleted airbox he still had over 200cc more .

I just picked up an XB9S for the wife and I have an XB12R myself, I took the 9 out on some back roads and couldn't wipe the grin off my face for 2 days afterwards.. :D

I'd say something is up..

I still have her 03 Blast too, it seems like a child's toy compared to the 9.. The 9 is currently bone stock..

Goduc have you ever rode a 9?

The 9's and 12's both have the same size sprockets the difference is in the primary. The 03's had 72 tooth sprockets but the gearing was no differnt than any other year because the front was also different.

trust me the 9 has plenty of torque to get the tire off the ground

Since the 9's are geared lower they feel about as torquey and as fast as the 12's.....until you get to a track and the 9 runs out of steam before the 12. But if you're on the street, realistically there's basically no difference.

GoDuc, your nuts! That XB9 i had was ALWAYS wanting to get the front up even with my fat ass on it! The only difference I could tell from my XB12 was top end and high highway speeds. By the way mine had the updated / smaller pulley also. [smirk]
iMO the 9 was more enjoyable and fun to ride than my 12.

my 07 xb9sx was fun stock but not as fun as it just became. i dropped a k&n, jardine (thanks to this forum) and an ebr race ecm in it. pretty big difference! if you do some shopping you can get the exhaust used and pretty cheep. the ebr ecm is 305 but there's some pretty good how to's on this forum or check out the tuniversity.
