Are you close to a decibel meter?- new law ruining fun in Calgary

I thought they were automated usually placed along exit ramps and snaped your pic. if your bike was too loud.

I also agree with Lunatic, except I think the law is for loud cars, loud stereos, and also for Harley's with straight pipes that make LOTS of noise. Loud pipes saves lives, but extra loud pipes annoy the hell out of everyone and now gets tickets. I hope your Buell doesn't sound that loud.

Ok, Query: Has anyone ACTUALLY BEEN CITED on a Buell for a too-loud exhaust system?

The OP said it was a New Law Ruining Fun in Calgary in his Header for everyone wondering where it was, Sounds Stupid I couldnt ride either bike or my truck!

I wish the cops would enforce whatever laws that are currently on the books for excessive noise around here (N. Central IL). Hogs outnumber any other make probably 10 to 1 and 99.9% of them are running non-stock exhausts. Some aren't bad, but the clowns with the shotgun pipes and other straight exhausts are just plain obnoxious.

Frankly, I don't know how they maintain any sort of hearing ability running those pipes and without helmets. I wear both my Shoei and foam plugs, AND I have the stock exhaust on my 12Ss. Maybe I'm turning into a old fart (at 42)[smirk], but I like a peaceful ride. I had a Jardine can with a DIY quiet insert on the bike and it was fun for about 5 minutes. On a long ride it just made my brain ache.

Besides, I'd rather not attract any additional attention to myself with a loud pipe since it's easy to be cruising along at fairly obscene speeds and not even realize it.

Apologies I've been away. The city is Calgary, Alberta. The way the city has rolled out the program it is geared at cracking down on loud motorcycles particular. They actually had a test day where you could take your bike around the police training track and they would measure your db's for you...I missed that. A noise snare is like photo radar, as you drive past it will record a video and your db's if you are to loud. Then your ticket will arrive in the mail. Apparently a school bus even tested to loud! .. helpfully this will be like most city by-laws and not overly enforced. If that's the case I may have to get used to riding around the city at 1000rpm.

I've actually been thinking about putting a stock system back on the bike including the active exhaust valve...which I removed completely when I installed the jardene. Just don't want to do it myself. ..if there is any one in Calgary who wants to make a few bucks??

Frustrated Noise Snare inventor cancels program in Calgary

It's with mixed emotions I read the above article regarding the cancellation of the so-called 'loud vehicle snare' program in my home city.

On the one hand, good riddance! The last thing our society needs is more regulation. I'll take noisy freedom over quiet tyranny any day!

On the other hand, it's sad that some folks can't regulate their own actions well enough that these kinds of silly laws are instituted in the first place. The urban chopper crowd who enjoy parading up and down the same street sounding like a bunch of flatulent hippos need to understand that the only attention they are drawing to themselves is from law-makers.

I am sure this won't be the last time loud pipes come under scrutiny but at least the issue is 'silent' for now. :D

This is a pic from my, 04 xb12s. 80db at 3,410 rpm. Haha wow not anymore!!
