Hate to be the guy to post up another tire thread but this thread is purely devoted to one specific tire.

So the time for a new set of tires is nigh. For the last two seasons I've been running michelin 2ct's and have been THOROUGHLY impressed by all that they offer. But the Dunlop q3 has caught my attention and I'm considering giving them a try. I do a lot of hard riding on demanding roads along with the occasional track day, which I've found the 2ct's to work great for. But I've never tried the dunlops. They sound great. I'm sure a lot of it is just good marketing though lol. But I know a few guys on here run them. What kind of mileage are you guys getting from a set? How would you describe the turn in? More of a neutral feeling tire? In comparison to previously run tires how do they compare?

I really like the Q3 and several of my friends do as well. Turn in is great and it feels quicker than it did on the sportmax Q2. The grip is probably more than I need but its the first tire I've been able to get all the way to the edge consistently without being concerned about traction. The other tire Ive used is the dunlop qualifier and I did not like anything about it.

I get about 5000-5500mi(i think 6 would be pushing it for me) out of the rear tire before I change them. Im about to purchase my third set of them. If you do track days Im sure you're well aware that will cut down on your tire life. My report is based on pretty hard acceleration and braking with some commuting miles. I go at the twisties fairly hard on weekends but ultimately I wear out the center first. I wish I had more time on the 2ct to give you a comparison. The time I have been on the 2cts though I am pretty confident in saying you would not be disappointed by the Q3's. Give it a shot they are cheap enough.

fyi motomummy is selling the 120/70 and 180/55 set for $230 free shipping right now and you can get a $40 rebate from dunlop making them a great deal. Hard to beat $190 a pair for how great they are.

Awesome response, exactly what I was looking to hear, thanks!

And for any future lurker of this thread, here is an interesting comparison. A bit dated but still relevant.

And it's really funny that you mention the motomummy.com deal. I was literally just ordering and figured I would post it up here before I finalized it, flip over to post it up and find your post! Your timing was impeccable :p You're right, $190 for a quality tire shipped to your door is tough to beat.

Once I get comfortable with the new donuts I will post an in depth comparison between the Q3's and 2ct's.

That's a pretty typical experience for most street riders, myself included. That's why dual compound construction is a nice feature of the Q3. In fact, I don't even consider pure sport ('uni-compound') tires for the street any more. They simply wear too fast & they're overkill for street riding.

where is the rebate? I have a pretty much new set but at that price i want to buy a second

Udate: Got the tires and got them mounted up. Took them out to get warmed up to them and wound up going on a 500 mile ride out to the mountains in West Viginia and the applachian foothills in Kentucky. One of my favorite loops for sure. Anyways, so these tires. Yeah. I like them. Compared to the Michelin 2cts They are a much more solid feeling tire. They feel much more planted at all times however they are significantly less "flickable". I find I have to push the bike over into a turn whereas with the Michelins I could just let the bike fall into a turn. Due to the profile I am sure. The 2cts had a much more aggressive but predictable dive in. The Dunlops have a consistent curvature making them COMPLETELY PREDICTABLE and produce a completely uniform feel at all lean angles. With these tires I feel just as confidednt and planted with my knee on the ground as I do traveling in a straight line. So foar for the $190 I have in them I am fairly satisfied with them. I have yet to experience their we weather capabilities but due to their track orientation I am not expecting much there. These tires required next to zero break in time and warm up pretty darn fast. I will probably wear these out before the season is up but I will have no problem purchasing another set to replace them. Im not expecting too much as far as mileage goes.
