My first motorcycle was a 2005 XB9S ligthning, a beast for the newbie I was but what a memories !
I am now back to the starting point with a 2005 XB12X and I may need some help to tune it well.
 
It runs with stock eeprom but with an aftermaket exhaust GPR REVERSE.
so iddle is rougth and i get some miss fire around 2500 rpm.
I will try the race eeprom, but it seems to be a high rpm enjoyment while i am lookin for torque and smoothness at low rpm.
 
I had the same rough running at low RPM's in my 2004 XB9S. Went from a D&D exhaust to stock muffler. Rough running at low RPM's was gone. Plus the D&D was just too loud--almost anti-social. Not sure about which ECM is in there but it sure is more civilized at low RPM's.
 
I planned to put back the stock muffler this weekend to check this issue. What you are telling me let me think that the eeprom must be optmized for an aftermaket exhaust to work properly.
 
The ECM will need to be played with and a performance free flowing air filter added to get the best from a aftermarket exhaust, however some gains are realised without it, but some problems are also created!!
To be perfectly honest the standard ECM's work ok with the standard set up, but have plenty of untapped potential to be made better by someone who understands how to tune these bikes. They come running from the factory to meet the required government pollution laws within the countries, or even states that they are delivered to for sale.
They are definetly not optimised for maximum performance but rather for required government regulations.
