I keep having to replace the battery in my XB12r. It's not on a trickle charger but I recently purchased a battery and three weeks later it was completely dead. Not the first time either. Any ideas

Too many short rides?

Get a battery tender if that's the case or use the bike for what it was meant for.

Check your stator/voltage regulator?
This sounds like a good start. Hopefully more will chime in with some info and help.

Don't listen to crap like this:

I have put 36,000 miles on my bike and I do not own a tender and my bike has sat that long and never needed a charge. Something is wrong with the charging system.

Good luck and welcome to the site :)

Don't pick an argument.

He didn't say it was just sitting there.

Go with the clues you're given and see what the next clue is.

I second Lesley, the only time my batt died it was the charging system. I used to have a 3.5 mile commute to work, rode almose every day for years with only long rides on weekends, never had a problem.

I commute 12 miles to work, and had the OEM battery die on me. My issue is I have 2 bikes so 1 is sat for a couple of weeks at a time with no use and the battery just loses power due to the immobiliser/alarm draining. My charging system is fine as the replacement battery is still strong today. Batteries just fail, even new ones can be problematic.

I elviate the confusion for myself by purchasing a new battery every three years without fail.

Just an FYI: once a battery has been drained flat several times it can develop a dead cell which renders it bad. You can trickle charge or fast charge it all you want but it is highly possible to just go dead somehwere and leave you stranded.

If you know you aren't gonna ride for a week or two simply unhook the battery Negative side and all is well.

Sorry for the late response. New at this blogging thing. Thanks to all for the response. I'm gonna go with stator/voltage regulator. Now for the big question. Anybody know a reliable Buell mechanic in the Fort Lauderdale, FLorida area?

You realy dont need a buell mech... If you can change a light bulb you can do this yourself. If you still feel the need for a mech to do it, find a small indy shop in your local area. you dont need a buell guy for this.... but really i think you should try it...
