While my stator went out JUST before my warranty went out (15,5xx miles)...!

I elected to do my own work, despite the atrocious, ridiculously priced Buell stator cost. My R1 stator went out at about 45,000 miles and cost half as much..!

Anyway...I sent my original Buell stator to the guys at "Custom Rewind".

Because of the excessive heat generated, I asked them to lower the wattage a little if they could without lowering the 14 volt output at lower rpm.
That was up to them how or IF they wanted to do this.
A wire diameter change or wrap count change will effect the output and "maybe" the heat output.
They also have a coupla different epoxies they use. The owner said that they use a "green stuff" they use for the high powered (high heat output) stators. They've found it to work well on other engines that have stator problems.

Anyway, I got it back in the mail yesterday.
Visually...a strange green color, kinda thick epoxy coating...but nicely done.
What I could see of the new windings, they were clean and straight, they used my original harness. The epoxy coating was laid very cleanly so there is no overcoating that will get in the way of anything...i.d. or o.d.

I'm currently on my second Buell stator, and hopefully it'll last a while, but I have the Custom Rewind stator ready to go if and when needed.

So far (visually) a thumbs up to Custom Rewind.

So what kind of $$$ did it cost?
When or if mine fails i think this would be a better than putting the same in.
What kind of turn around time i am very tempted to pull mine and have it done while it is winter and just setting there waiting for spring thaw

Thanks for the info.

I spoke with a company this weekend while at the dealer show in regards to the stator issues. They were aware of the issue but have yet to get their hands on a test bike.

Hi Fellow buellers ,i have a m2 cyclone love the bike but am always fixing it have spent heaps of $$$$ , so i thought ill buy a 1125r for reliability,(2010) model well after 6000ks (aust) the stator packed it in, is this a common problem and is this bike goin to be a money pit. maybe i should buy jap ????

My CR will have 16,000 miles on it before I get home tonight.

My problems -
1. The stator died.
2. Most all need some sort of tuneup to get the fuel/timing maps correct to make the engine happy.
3. Rear turn signals died..been replaced with aftermarket.
4. Air filter does not seal properly against the housing. A heavy coat of grease fixed that.
5. Stock front brake pads are crap, been replaced.

So far...that's my list of problems.
