So I just bought a new Buell Blast and I knew/thought that it had a bad battery when I bought it.

I also own a 2005 Honda Rebel 250cc. I thought hooking up the Honda's battery to the Buell would be a good test to see if the Blast would start. When trying this, I could hear the motor try to start over a couple times slowly but then bike would click repeatedly.

I was under the assumption that all motorcycle batteries would have the specs to start any motorcycle. Is this not the case or does is a Buell battery more powerful than a Honda Rebel battery? Should I go ahead and buy a new battery specific to the Buell or do you think it's another issue?

Thanks for the help and I look forward to contributing to the forum!

I say try to throw a good charge on the current battery, worst case it doesnt hold it. Then buy a new one. If its cranking slowly it probably doesnt have enough juice. Have you heard the bike run/ seen it start?

Blast arent new so I dont see how you could have just bought a new one. More than likely the battery is over three years old which means its time to replace it. And not all motorcycles require the same CCA's to start. The higher the compression the harder it is to turn the motor over.

So you got a new to you Blast! Have fun with it! Maybe, I figure you may have a Old Battery OR draging Starter. Buells and ALL Vehicles need a good Battery.[ Remember the Small Things First]! Now with the terminals off or better yet remove it out of the bike. Make sure the battery is not more than 3/years old as the Buellers are saying. That said check the battery after it has been SLOW charged on SAY maybe 2/amps for a while or till the Charger shuts off! .
NOW if the Charger is Automatic and will not come on at all or acts I'll call it weird for easyness of learning.UnPlug & Remove the Charger. ALSO Never Jump Start the Bike with a Large Vehicle Battery. A Small Car Battery with the Car Turned off completely can jump the Bike QUICKLY but now don't leave cables on the Bike thinking you can just charge it like that! You will most likely be spending more money than you will like to! SAY the STARTER Stuck and you didn't know it, it will be a bad day the wiring will start to smoke so Safety is Always good.,
The Small Battery is usually no more than 200/CCAmps and over large Batterys can cause some Serious damage.
MOST Vehicles have more than 550 CCAMPS and up!!
Then with it removed out of your bike take it and have it Load Tested at an Auto parts Store just to be sure.
If a new battery is needed then, Try to buy a sealed Battery with at least 200/Cold Cranking Amps. BUT First Check with American SportBike .com FOR parts & to see if they have the proper Battery or at least find out the CCAmps. for That year of Bike. Then go from there. Please do not go cheap on your battery. OR put the wrong one in.
Learn the year of bike you have on maintenance or get a Manual so you can be more informed. This is a Good Forum with helpfull Buellers so post up if needed.
A Manual is always a good thing just in case if you can afford or find one. Use AmsOil 20/50 when maintenance comes around. A NGK Spark Plug is a good Plug for your ride. Also make sure when you get the Small Things First Done put the Tranny in Neutral before you start it just in case the Clutch if it Drags won't pull on the Bikes starter. When ALL of your Repairs are DONE and the bike has been Ridden SAY 100 miles then PUT just a Splash of SEAFOAM in the tank NOT the whole bottle measure it for MAX, effect to a full tank! If you need more help post up Welcome to the Buell Forum.*Jimi

Thanks all for the help. It ended up being the battery, and I got a brand new AGM one on ebay that works like a charm!
