Hello Gentlemen.
Tomorrow morning I will embark on a week long trip From Vancouver British Columbia, Canada
to Tijuana Mexico and back. Or as far as my butt and bike will take me.

09 XB9SX 4300km on it- all stock

So general consensus:
Any must see- must don'ts
machine capable-appropriate for extended voyages.
any big motorcycle stores along the way for emergency parts and or goodies.
Anyone want to keep me company for a stretch.

Wow. Now that's a trip, how long do you expect to take? I would love to do a ride from NY to Cali, take old Route 66 and just cruise.
Best of luck .

All that in a week? I don't know about that...maybe two weeks - one week down, another back. Good luck!

Well it's going to be one hell of a ride... I'm not sure you have enough time.... It's a easy four day there and back trip for a iron butt rider......
But if your going to try you might miss the rain/snow through Washington and Oregon if you just buzz down I5 it's just the wrong time of the year to ride in both of those states. I would suggest stopping in old sac for the night
then take 80 maybe stopping in crocket or Berkeley then cutting through sf then hitting 101 right now the weather here is a solid 75degs and 80degs in the valleys and you can work out the flat spots on your tires. I would then cut over to i5 again around ventera then head to Mexico.....
Now I have a question for you... Do you really want to ride in Mexico? It is a little over rated.... Especially if your just going to TJ.....
If that's all your going to do? I would leave my bike in the usa and walk across you can get stuck for hours in customs trying to come back into the usa.
Now bike parts I would not worry about it.... If you change the oils and have new or fairly new tires you will have no problems at all.
Now shop wise in California there are hundreds of big dealers and small shops and motorcycle museums you can stop at.... That's kinda sky's the limit...
Have fun and take pictures.

Second that, but find someone that you can leave your bike with...the parking lot(s) at the border isn't secure to leave a bike unattended. I worked the border for 5-1/2 yrs from San Ysidro to Calexico, trust me if you don't want your bike anymore, go ahead and park it at the border.

I did that ride about 10 years ago. I left Phoenix, AZ and headed out to Los Angeles to meet up with my cousin. We rode down, parked at the US/Mexico border and walked to Tijuana. We paid the attendant $20 to keep an eye on our bike and store our gear in the booth.

It took me 12 days total and we didn't ride for 2 of those days. We also did one very light riding day when we walked around in Tijuana. We stuck to the coast going up and slabbed it on the way home.

My advice is sticking to the coast as much as possible. From north of Los Angeles up to the Canadian border is absolutely awesome. From LA south it is pretty built up and not really worth the trouble. The red woods in northern California are spectacular and not to be missed. Explore some of the secondary roads as the are really nice curving around the red woods.

We stayed at hotels along the way. No reservations, just pulled up and asked for a room. On another trip I did with my wife in a car. We brought a laptop and booked a hotel the night before when we decided where we wanted to go the next day. Hotels.com gives you a free nights credit after 10 stays, which add up on a trip like that. But double check the rates through the actual hotel website as they can have really cheap last minute deals at times.

Well I did have big dreams of 1000km days but I will probably end up sterile if I try to pull that. Made it as far as
Rosedale today-lower Oregon.

Debating whether to swing west and hit the coastal road but it adds 3hrs to my journey, I had planned San Fran
by tomorrow.

Speaking of tires I left at probably 50% and It seems like they just dropped out, like 10 left.
Is there any infrastructure on hwy101 to get a set?
