That looks pretty awesome. Im afraid to ask how much they cost. If for nothing else it LOOKS super cool! :)

However i dont know if its really needed. It would seem the biggest issue is how it seals off the tranny,
I once had a Iron head sporty project and was shocked to open the primary after i bought it and found a complete Belt drive primary inside, it was designed to run in Oil, it was a bike my old partner and I bought to rebuild and then sell. It worked okay while we had it. Cant speak on longevity or other issues.

But i HAVE fitted 12 different kits onto vintage british bikes. Most of them from MAP Cycles onto Triumphs followed by several kits from NORVIL onto vintage Nortons, and one Bob Newby belt drive kit onto a BSA. In each case the belt drives were VASTLY superior to the stock primary drives and clutchs. In every case a HUGE weight savings and the motors picked up noticable power not having to spin all that extra weight. Also the lack of oil leaks,, running dry is one less area to leak from and British bikes are famous for their leaky primarys so the dry belt drives are awesome in that regard.

Sorry my experience isnt more direct to this product, but thought id say its super cool at least.
 
I've heard this is a big weight savings but I've also heard the kit runs somewhere in the $3,000 range so for that much, I'll stick with what I've currently got. You can buy a used XB for around the cost of the mod.
 
Yea, it was thousands and they only had production for like a year.

I've wanted it a long time.
 
There have been two different belt drive primary setups offered over the years. One was made by Freespirits and the other by this company, NH Power. The Freespirits required the transmission oil passages to be welded shut and it left the primary cover gasket surface exposed. The NH Power unit uses a cover to seal the transmission and has a much cleaner look. I just emailed NH Power with questions about their assembly.

You're right, freespirits discontinued theirs and NH had a project bike for a show with this kit a couple months ago where they said it was a one-off kit when I asked.

Maybe they had enough interest that they decided to produce it.

Looks kind of cool but also very weird, JMO. Looks like you could get your foot or lace or jeans caught in the belt.
 
Big weight savings. I bet you cut half of the weight of the primary drive off when switching to a belt drive. It would really only be a good swap for a race bike or show bike though. The factory stuff is extremely reliable and works well.
 
Been looking at belt drive primary kits for some time. Most seem cost prohibitive. It is certainly a mod I would be interested in doing for the right price. Looking forward to any updates you guys can provide on price and availability.
 
It has been my experience talking to old school bikers that open primaries are quite nice to look at, but suck on a daily driver if there is any chance of humidity, the clutch pack gets wet and chatters or worse case, actually sticks so bad it can cause stalling and difficult cranking, with a lot of shifting the steel shims get hot and throw a little water from a puddle on them and then you have a permanent problem with warped plates.
 
OMG! The NH Power XB belt drive shown in the picture on their site costs Euro 4,549 or $6,154!! That's crazy expensive.
