Belt Guard Survey

How many of you guys have the swing arm belt guards removed? Has anyone experienced negative effects?

I took mine off years ago. No problems yet but to be fair I only ride pavement [up]

Been off mine for 4 years and 10000 miles no problems. A lot of people are pointing out that it helps keep rocks out of the pulley but no one really has had proof that this can cause the belt to break. I think they are more for saftey to keep clothing out

Sweet response people!! I'm taking the top one off and I'm going to run with the bottom one.

I'll post pics of her soon.

A quick look at top off, bottom on.

I have thought about this mod as well, but am wary just for sake of rocks. It does look good though.[cool]

Both my upper and lower belt gaurds are staying put, as well as my front pully cover. I plan on upgrading to carbon fiber versions of each though - should look SWEET.

I bough my 2006 xb12ss Buell 2 days ago and it didn't come with either of the guards. I'd like to run at least the bottom one, does anyone have a guard that they would like to get rid of?

no gaurds occasional pant catch if jeans too looose

You say this as if it's not a big deal lol...

I like removing the rear covers, and see a minimal risk. But I don't think I could ever remove the front cover.

Took mine off, really cleans up the look, especially with the passenger pegs removed. Never wear shoes with laces exposed!!! Road my little super-moto once with laced shoes and the damn laces wrapped around the shifter linkage! Fortunatley did not wreck but invented some new words! Always check your belt before you ride, its cheap safety insurance. Pilots do a walk around, so should you.

This happened to me once coming to an intersection. I always tuck my laces in now.
