Just picked up a very clean 03 XB9R for the gf... and am wonering how you can tell if it has the belt & pulley upgrade.

It still has the stock belt guards on, and my understanding is that after the belt upgrade, the stock '03 guards dont fit... is that even true?

Also, for purely cosmetic reasons... can a late model swingarm be swapped onto the early XB models? What is required other then a swingarm? Oil lines? different swingarm bolt/pivot axle?

I think it should be true, the rear pulley will be much bigger than the stock 03

I'll see if I can find pictures of what mine looked like with the old VS new drive on it

you can also read the tooth count as the number is stamped on the pulley itself

65T
vs
72T

so did they change the front gear/pulley too? or did the gearing radically change w/the upgrade too?

if they didn't change the front pulley its going to eat belts like mad

the teeth are bigger on the new belt drive system than the old one and the new belt is longer due to the added size in the pulleys

if you put big belt teeth on a small tooth drive pulley it will end in a mess

if they did it with the proper parts the gearing is very close to stock

yes it is if you buy the parts new
drive conversion from ASB
I bought mine from a parts bike with a blown tranny and was less than $200

also, it looks like they retain the same 65/27 ratio it's just that belt w/ a different pitch.

except the 2003 models came stock with a 72/30 (2.4074 drive ratio) the new drive is 65/27 (2.4000 drive ratio)

yes very close but just trying to clarify what drive is what ;)
