i just did an engine swap 04 bike to an 06 engine. and i went to go for a quick ride and the belt shredded.. prob less thank 4k rpm and i was prob only goin 5-10 mph up a hill on wet grass when the bike spun in the grass and slid out from under me. prob got a quick blip of full throttle while i grabbed the clutch and tried to straighten her before she fell.

the belt does seem really brittle when bending it.
it had about 23k on it
what do you guys think caused it? maybe just an old belt? or is my engine maybe out of alinement?

Doesn't sound like you were doing anything out of the ordinary (assuming it snapped before the bike hit the ground). I vote belt, but there should be some tension tests and recommendations in the service manuals. Make sure all of that checks out on your new belt before you juice it up.

ok sweet i was thinking my engine was all f***ed up and i was going to have to tear the bike apart again... new belts on its way from buellparts.net

and to get a little off topic i cross threaded the 90 that come out of the top of the oil pump. and i didn't realize i did till after the damage was done. and now i need to replace that 90. i have a new one. but how the hell do i get that one off? do i really need to drop the oil pump? if i do how hard is it to put the oil pumps back in? the gears will aline them selves right?

Taking the oil pump out and putting them back is pretty simple. Just held in with the lines and 2 bolts. Then you'll need to line it up right with the pump gear or it won't go back in. It should be lined up right if you get it back in without forcing it

are you big and fat? and compressed the suspension onto the tensioner, therefore snapping the belt??

na im 6'3" 166lbs hahaha if thats what happened the belt is probily the least of my worries lol

I am double his size and havent snapped my belt!!! So watch the big and fat comments!! HAHAHAHAH Seriously though I am 6'6" and over 330 pounds!!

I have been in a motorcycle club for 8 years, first with an 05 HD Soft tail, and they have called me grape ape on a tricycle all the way through since the only bike I have ever owned that I didnt look horrible on was a StreetGlide!!! But yeah Its a sight for people to see!! HAHAHAHAHA

I would never take a belt on a Buell much past 15k miles unless I knew its life history (dumped clutches, wheelies, stoppies - stoppies are actually hardest on them). That you did an engine swap is telling...

Btw... I'm 6' and 360 I'm a big guy but "in shape" I go 250. I sold an 883 Sportster to buy this my XB (ok it was a bike I bought for my wife - but I rode it when she didn't).
