I'm installing a power outlet soon, and for those who use their GPS a lot, just wonder what your GPS of choice is.

If I remember correctly, there were some units that were meant for motorcycle riders, having options like scenic routes, or twisty roads.

What apps do you use? Any specific reasons for using a mix of apps instead of just one?

naaah its just down to what i need at the time. Some times i will use "Waze" and other times i will use google maps. A friend just suggested "Rever" app but i haven't had chance to use it yet."

For now, I'm going to make use of an older GPS that I had lying around the house. It has the option to bypass highways on routes, so maybe this will work just fine. I'll wire up the power outlet tomorrow, and when the charge cable and mount come in, I'll get some metal to make a bracket. I'll hopefully have it finished by the end of the week.

Hopefully, it will look something like this:

I've got the One Max. I ordered a cable for it so that I could mount it to the handlebar, but it's hard to find a nice hard case that isn't massive and bulky. I don't like the X brace mounts personally.

I just use Google Maps on mine.

This is my first bike, so my honest answer is that I have no idea. It was rebuilt by a HD dealer after it was laid over (a few years before I bought it), so I imagine it is all stock.

And I'm making progress. Power is wired up. Now I'm just waiting on a short charge cable and GPS mount. Once they're in I can start fabbing up a bracket.

(Don't mind the color change - I'm half way done). Until my new sprocket bolts come in, I'm rocking the Captain America look

I've used a couple gps units on my bike. Prior to this one I used a magellan which was nice for wifi updates. However it would change orientation when I took a corner. It was also not waterproof. In the end I built my instrument cluster around a Garmin Zumo 660. It has a quick refresh, turns on when the key comes on, readable in direct sunlight, works with gloves. I also dont have to remove it when I wash the bike.

Sext9, that looks great. One day I'll catch up to you. :)

For now, I'm one step closer. The charge usb cable wasn't compatible with mu old Magellan, but it is compatible with an old Garmin that was lying around, so change of plan on which model I'm using.

Zerocwl, I ordered a wiring harness from a '08+ Lightning that came prewired with the accessory plug. I had that wired into the stock fuse panel of my '03 just as it would have come from the factory (like they did in '08). I added the heated grips, and that left me an extra pigtail for an accessory plug. I bought the factory HD socket with the plug to snap into the pigtail, but found that the socket itself was too big to fit in the headlight module. So then I went to Powerlet.com and ordered their low profile socket kit. I installed their socket in the module, but instead of using their wiring, I cut the pigtail off the HD socket and put in on the end of the Powerlet socket. Works perfectly. The main difference though is that the Powerlet socket is smaller in diameter than the regular cigarette lighter sized socket, so they take special plugs (you can order all different combinations of plugs online). There's a video on Revzilla about the Powerlet products that does a good job explaining the differences.

I didn't take any pictures of the process, but I could probably draw out a diagram of what I did if you're interested in duplicating it.
