I'm in the market for a bike and have always loved Buells. I really love the styling of the Lightnings. My question is I'm a big guy about 250 but its pretty evenly spread and I'm about 6'. Would a 9 be to weak for me or should I go to a 12. I'm new to bikes so this will be my first bike I just dont want to get a 9 to save some money and have it strain like a moped to move me. So any big guys out there and which do you have and how do you like it?? I will be looking for an earlier model cause I'm looking for around 4000. How hard is it to find a 12 for 4k? Is it even possible. What would an 05 XB12S with 25000 miles be worth? There is one locally for 4500 but I have seen 03's with lower mileage going for less so is that high? Thanks for any answers anyone gives this newbie.

A 9 should have plenty to pull you. Cherry and I road my xb9sx 2 up quite a bit combined weight over 300. Including the dragon a couple times.
The 9 out revs the 12.
Mine had 15,000 when I had it forsale before cherry took it over for 4500 is not a bad price. 04 and later have an updated bet and pulley set up over the 03's.
If they have been taken care of they will last a long time.
I think buellchicks bike is around 50,000 on it with out any major engine work

I have 05 xb9r and im 260 and 6'3 and it does much just fine. It doesn't even act like im on the bike and the only thing I have done is the hawk exhaust. Plus i got the bike for a great deal and like rt performance said the 9 revs higher than a 12. Good luck with the buy.

I'm 6 foot 210 and my 9r pulls great, never thought my stature made a difference. Go with either

I'm 5'11" and 220lbs. I ride an 04 xb12r and love it....as for price, I bought my 04 12r with race ecm and exhaust with only 7k miles for $3100......

5'11' @ 230... '03 xb9s...Pro series exhaust and oil pump gear is all, hauls ass in the city and on the freeway

good luck:D

6'1" 250, got a 9R, thought it rode fine then adjusted suspension according to weight and rode even better

Dang I need to try and find some of those deals. I'm gonna have to wait for a month or 2 to get to 4000 but if I can find one for 3000-3500 I'd jump on that right now. Did you guys find those prices on the forums? I've mainly just been looking at cycletrader and craigslist and a little on ebay. Is there other sites to look at?
