Rode last wed with no issues other than I was low on gas and too lazy to get some. Didn't ride until last night to get gas so I could ride to work today. There was a little sputter and hesitation on my way but seemed ok on the way back, a 4 mile round trip. This morning it did a little jerking and popping under acceleration but seemed to settle down at speed, after work shot went crazy. Sputtering, popping, hesitation, jerking, backfiring, stalling, over revving to hit the rev limiter, you name it. Don't know what the hell is going on so left it at a shop. SUCKS! I know if I started to "fix" I would just get frustrated and make it worse because that's what I do, so I'm going to pay out the ass, but at least someone who knows what they are doing will look at it.

I'll cross my figures for you and your bike.
Most shops that did sell Buell's didn't have a clue what to do to fix problems that weren't part of the "Buell tech school."
I would say you're problem is fuel pump related. Probably just the filter screen and filter.
However, you could have a total anomaly and have the battery connections coming loose....
Anyway, whatever the issue is, I'm sure you could have fixed it for $200bucks tops.
Let us know how things turn out when you get your bike back in a few weeks.

There's nothing wrong with having a professional mechanic fix your stuff. They are not all the same though. It's a relationship, so choose accordingly:)

When I was having problems with my bike and the fuel looked like it was boiling and spraying out the overflow line. Harley couldn't figure anything out because there wasn't a code... They are good for one thing " some parts".

^^^^^^^^^^ This.

As I see it, a Buell, especially an XB or a Rotax powered one, should be worked on by someone who is passionate about *Buell*.

Guy still doesn't know what's wrong with it but hasn't really put that much effort to it either. He's busy right now. That aside he has recommended that I get a power commander V and a tune. Anyone here running a power commander?

Ummm. The bike has running issues and he wants to ADD an aftermarket thingy first?? That worries me.

A Power commander V is a tune. Sort of. You wouldn't need a PC and a tune...

I'm worried because he needs to fix the bike and then add stuff. Not before. He shouldn't even be suggesting up-sales until he finishes the problem at hand.

I'm also worried because if the mechanic really was a 'Buell guy' I highly doubt he would suggest a PowerCommander over just flashing a "race map" on your existing ECM.

What are the details on the bike? Year? Mileage? Commuter? Just pulled it out of storage?

not sure what year of bike it is almost sounds as if you have a carb problem if its over reving iam sure its the carb .:upset: fuel to air is bad

The mechanic does not want to add the power commander now. He told he after its fixed, he would recommend adding it. I just wanted to know if anyone else has one or if its worth it.

2005 xb12s, 15,000 miles. Ive had it for 3 years and rode mostly for fun on weekends, etc. Not much of a daily commuter until this year after its fixed.

Rayman, what all does your bike have aftermarket on it to warrant the need for tuning? The beauty of the XB's ECM is that it is fully programmable at least as far as you would need. It is always better to have the ECM handle changes directly then using a secondary box to interpret and trick the standard programming inside of an ECM.

Do not put a power Commander on your bike ! You do not need it . All I can say is get your bike back. The guys on here have a way better chance of helping you then that guy.

but hasn't really put that much effort to it either. He's busy right now.

That sounds reassuring. Almost like he's a pro-bono mechanic. Or maybe he's building a custom chopper right now.

What would be worse... Someone who doesn't know about Buells or someone who doesnt care?

3\4 of the time it is a simple tps reset and afv reset. You would just need ecmspy and cable or a dongle from AZ (member) and a smartphone ( android) to download ecmdroid and I am sure the guys on here can walk you through it. NOT SAYING that is the cure all but most of the time it is.
