Ive attempted a tps reset once before. I don't know what I did but when I went to start it, it jumped to 2500 rpm at idle. I did a reset again and got it back to 1100 so I'm leaving that alone. as for a afv or any fuel mapping or anything else really im fairly confident I will screw it up so I don't even want to try. that's why the bike is at the shop now and not in my garage.

AFV is as simple as reading the value and making a note of it then inputting 100, dialog box to push it to the bike if I remember right and that is all there is to it. WHY it is important to make note of the value is it is a good indicator of other problems with the bike if the values go to far off of 100 in either direction.
If you feel more comfortable with him working on it than yourself just have him be clear with you what he wants to attempt BEFORE he does the work, if you are paying by the hour for trouble shooting it's going to add up quick! Whatever he comes back to you with you could relay that here and get sound advice if this is a plausible direction for the fix or not.
