I had my side rails powder coated and just put everything back together a few weeks ago. Took it out last sunday and it wasnt running right. I actually ran out of gas even though my fuel light never came on. Added fuel and it still wasnt running right.

Basically how I can explain it is when I am on the highway the bike seems to be surging and sputtering. One second it will catch and take off for 10 seconds then it will sputter agian. Almost seems as if it is dying. I took it up to my local buell dealer and they got an error code about my engine temp sensor. Could that be just coincidence that they got that error code?

It feels like the gas isnt getting through to my engine or something. What also happens is when i am in second gear going steady at 4000 rpms my bike will also like sputter and slow down slowly and if i let off the gas and twist the throttle again it will catch and take off. It kinda felt like it was only running on one cylinder or something. Took it to buell dealer and they coudlnt find anything except for the bad engine temp sensor.

Should i run some fuel cleaner through it?

Oh and i did sand down the spots where the grounds touch my side rails so that it is grounded properly

Please help me THANKS

have you tried replacing the engine temp sensor? i mean if it is giving you that error code, why not replace it? you may have already, i dont know. i know a sputtering bike will drive a guy nuts.

edit: should read your whole post before i run my big mouth

did you sand down where the siderails contact the frame though? through the main mounting bolts?

that happened to me after i painted mine just mine quit all together. i had to sand mine down like u said. if you noticed when u pulled it off there is no paint on the mounts its bare metal. even though you sanded it down i would just go over it again with a grinder or something and really make sure its good also the ground from the battery to the frame i would check

Ill second the "are battery terms tite?"
After getting mine back from the dealer in the past I had the a very similar issue. Had to pull over because it was running so badly. Positive term ended up being loose. On-Board toolkit for the win!

the battery terminals are tight and i did sand down the grounds on the inside of the rail really good but im sure i could do a better job of where hte rails touch the frame. I have sub frame spacers on my bike as well so i should probably sand those down on all sides to make a good connectio.

is there anything on the inside of my headlight i should sand down? i ask this because i got the 2 brackets for my headlight powder coated too!
