Bike Stands

It's getting to be time here in Michigan to put the bike away for the winter and I have been debating whether or not to get stands. How many of you are using them for storage? What's an inexpensive set to go with?

Definitely a good idea.

Here's the ones I bought: Series 3 set

They work well and lift the bike under the swing-arm so you can remove the rear wheel. It appears that they're offering hook adapters to be used with spooled axle sliders like we offer but they didn't have those when I got mine. These aren't necessarily the best stands out there but they do the job.

Two things I didn't realize at first about the front stands/forks at the time:

1: The Buell's right & left forks are different lengths (from the axle to the bottom of the fork) so the lifts in this set may not be the ideal type to use but They have been OK for me.

2: To remove the front wheel you have to remove the fender and rotate the fork and brake caliper so you have to find another way to keep the bike off the floor. I hung straps from an I-beam in my garage to do this.

You may want to check out a "front head" lift that picks up the front from the pivot at the triple trees. They're more expensive but they are the "proper" way to do it and will avoid the 2 points above. Here's a link for the front lift of this type. If I were to do it all over again, I'd by a front head front lift and a rear lift that can be adapted to lift via spool (more solid lift for cleaning, storage etc) or under the swing-arm. Whatever you chose make sure the rear stand is wide enough for the swing-arm as the belt on our bikes make them wider than most.

The front triple tree stand does seem like a much more stable stand. The biggest decision now will be whether to spend the extra $50 and get the T rex, which seems like what a lot of people go with or save the cash for mods and get the fly n cycle set.

Depends on if they are 5-0dro mods! Haha...Just kidding! The T-Rex stands do seem to be quality pieces. I suppose it depends on how often you use the stands.

I'm looking at buying stands but saw on another page about using the muffler to lift the bike. Is it solid enough?

I have a squat rack and with 2 straps it keeps the bike upright for clutch fluid checks. I was thinking I could just jack the bike up with a floor jack and tie it down with the squat rack to change/clean wheels/tires. Also I have to replace the head bearing and seems like this would be a good option.

I don't take it to the track and don't really need stands very often.

I would recommend Pit-Bull stands. These are the stands I have, and they would great. They are extremely well made, and they are made right here in the USA.

Rear Stand - Standard / Spooled

I know they aren't the cheapest, but I can definitely say they work really well. Some of the benefits of the Pit-Bull head-lift stand is I am told that it's the only stand out there that you can use with the front fender still installed. Since I haven't used others, I can't confirm that, but I have seen it on several different forums. I bought the spooled / standard rear stand so I can use the stand on my spools for storage, and use the standard lift when removing the rear wheel is necessary.

Yea I was surfing evilbay last night looking at these. I've had several sport bikes in the past that I used swingarm forks for. But It was really nice to be able to lift my harley from underneath and now with the prospect of being able to do the same with the buell it would be nice to not have to buy anything new. I just don't want to crush the exhuast to find out. There has to be somone that has done it before and could say yes it will support the weight of the bike.

CB750 Awesome. Mine is aftermarket but thats enough for me to give it a try. I figure some wood blocks to avoid scratching it and go slow to test it. Thanks!!

T-Rex is what I got. They are awesome. I got the triple front stand but it came with the stuff for using them for the forks. Plus it came with spools and swingarm lift for the rear. I use them for both my XB and my CR.

I recently picked up a T-Rex triple stand as well. I haven't put it under the hood yet, but will this weekend! It is extremely well made and seems sturdy.

yes it is and confirm what CB750 said. if you want to fore-go the stands and have a typical trussed over plywood or drywall ceiling in your garage, just park the bike where you'll be working on it and center it....screw a piece of 2-by whatever into the truss centers directly above the bars/clip-ons, screw a pair of hooks into the 2-by, atach a set of tie-downs to the bars (i use soft straps), snug them up, and start to lift bike at muffler with floor jack. tighten the ratchets as you lift. make sure the ratchets are in X confirguration as that keeps bike from wobbling side to side. works beautifully.

look on Craigslist.... I picked mine up and they were listed for a 06 CBR600. Rear worked as planned and the front only needed a Tripple tree adapter ( top portion of stand). total cost was like $80 for everything.
