Blast wont start!

I just bought it from a very close friend. It has been sitting for a year as we have just got back from afghanistan so i figure i will try cleaning the carb out. However when i tried starting the bike, the battery was making the most annoying sound in the world (like dumb and dumber most annoying noise). Any ideas?[confused]

Does it actually run and what kind of noise exactly, and was it from the starter or the battery? Possibly needs a new battery especially if it has sat without a tender.
