getting some blue smoke from the exhaust but only noticed at start up then goes away. anyone have ideas on the cause of this and a solution?

Rings not sealing well until they expand from heat?

Thats my guess. Probably some oil sneaking past the rings. Once they get warm they expand and seal the cylinder better.

If it's at startup, my guess would be a worn valve guide(s) and/or seals. Also, if you get a little smoke after idling a while and then taking off, that could additionally point to valve guides.

...Not taking away from the advice of Sirius815 and 2004xb12s - could also be rings. A compression test can help confirm.

If compression is normal when cold, remove whichever is easier of the exhaust header or intake manifold and look for pooled oil in the ports. If you checked the intake ports and there's none, then check the exhaust ports.

I'm not that savy with engine issues. I'm always willing to learn more however. Thanks for the insight ReadyXB! [up]

Yea, oil in the combustion chamber can really only be coming from any of 4 places:
- past the rings
- past the valve guides
- via a bad gasket
- through the intake

Based on your symptoms though, my bet would be on valves.

ok thanks guys. here's what i recently done for work. new rocker boxes seals because i refinished the boxes in black powder coat. and i installed a force streetfighter exhaust gen1.
