The aftermarket disks as seen on a few web adds is costly and the 'waved disk' trend is dangerous due to the fact that the percentage of the metal covered by the actual disk pad when braking is sometimes less than 40%, scary . We have researched and cut some Domex Metal disks [armour plated type steel used in the military environment][front and rear] with a wave on the outer rim, not only does it look great, but the Swedish metal is less abrasive, with close to zero wear-and-tear with absolute great heat dispersion.

Possible, although I do not know of anybody in the BRA or BRG in South Africa having a waved disk. We also experience that the current disk performs better than the standard disk. We unfortunately have to comply with the SABS Standards in order to manufacture disks and to prevent any claims should something go wrong

yea, it performs better cause the wave gives you a larger cooling surface so you have less fading

Wicked disks. Did you just laser cut from plate, or did you then machine afterwards? I have used Swedish Steels Domex before - did you choose this after trial and error or would any high strength steel do?

If I begged nicely could you let me have the DXF's?

Our first productions were cut from 8mm Stainless Steel but the lazer creates too much heat and specifically the front disk due to its large diameter ‘warped’ and this could not be corrected, not even during the surface grinding

We after consultation with a large company doing production of spares for racing cars found that they use the Domex and we switched, the metal is very expensive, but it works 100%+++++

We are thinking of having the next batch cut with water, this apparently do not heat the metal at all

So the discs are surface ground after laser cutting? The rear disc looks like it has been machined back around the mounting hole / 'vane' area. Is that so?

I recently went to Switzerland with a company who makes both Lasers and Water Jets (Bystronic) to have a look at their kit. Water Jet cutting is awesome. Superb accuracy cutting some seriously thick lumps of metal and no thermal distortion. Horribly slow, though.....like watching paint dry!

Sorry to use abbreviations. DXF stands for Drawing Exchange Format ASCII file which is primarily designed for the interchange of drawings between AutoCAD systems. Not sure if this is as common place in the US as it is in the UK. Basically I was asking to pinch your design so I could cut it on my Laser without the need for any programming.......[smirk]

Yes the water cutting is slow but also much more expensive that the lazer, I will wait and see what it looks like after our next cutting

I would like to assist you with the drawings but unfortunately it was done on AutoCAD program and is with the manufacturers. Order a set and copy it then from the actual size

All cutting was done by lazer, even on the rear disk, the new rear disk now looks the same as the front. The surface grinding is the only machine work that was conducted.

Feedback on our disk project, the disks as manufactured have done 8000kms with the original disk pads, there is zero 'wear-and-tear'.

The braking with disks is exceptionally well and I have completed 2 track days on one or our local racing tracks and have not experienced any disfunction of the disk with the older brake pads

I am currently using new EBC Double H [new 'C' formula’] disk on the front and it works great

We will commence manufacturing of the disks in Jan09; the profile of the rear disk will change to match the front disk
