My 03 lightning brake light doesn't light up with the rear brake but does with the front brake. Any ideas what it could be? Thanks

Thank you very much. Is there any way to check if that's what it is before buying the part? Also did that cause your bike to reset the trip and clock when starting occasionally?

I'm not sure about the rear brake light switch but I took apart the switch on the front brake and cleaned the contacts and it worked perfectly after that. Might save you a few $.

Your batrery is getting weak and that is why your clock and trip keep resetting on startup.

The front switch is easy to test. Key on. Switch unplugged. Light off. Jump the 2 wires together and the light will come on. I took my switch apart and cleaned the contacts and super glued it back together. Back switch can be tested the same way. My rear switch was broken so it had to be replaced.

Also check your battery cables. They could be loose or dirty. Battery could be bad or it might need a good charge on it.

it's a common nissin part. 50% of the time removing it and cleaning with a blast or 2 of brake cleaner in the fluid port rejuventates it. if not replacement required. also remove your seat and look at right upper rear sub-frame rail area and you'll see small wiring harness with flat male/female connector that runs from master cylinder towards rear of bike. that is the feed to your rear brake/tail light unit. check to see that it is clean and connected.
