So I just did the much touted breather mod to my `07 XB12R. Took it for a couple of runs, on the freeway & in the city. Doesn`t seem to have completely cured the sputtering on pulling away in first. Anybody else failed to solve this issue after doing the mod

dont think the mod is a fix for sputtering ..bike should run smooth with breather in stock location

It won't completely solve the low-rpm stuttering but it should help somewhat. If nothing else, you've gained the advantage of the intake sucking in clean air - instead of air mixed with recycled crankcase gases. Only way to completely solve it is probably a remap.

I did not see any difference with this mod on my 09. After about 1500 miles I put some iridum plugs in and that did make some difference. When I pulled to old plugs they did not look bad, so I figured that I was wasting my time. But even with my mind set on it doing nothing, it actually made some difference. I don't think that there is anything that is going to make these bike run perfectly but these little things do help some.

I am pretty excited to ride after I get this done tonight. When I first checked the bike when I bought it there was nothing in the airbox, so I did not feel the need to do the mod. (that was at 700 miles). Now I am up around 1500 miles and she has started running a little rougher. Sure enough I pulled it open yesterday and it was rather oily, all over the place. Can I wash the stock air filter? I was going to put off a K&N for a while so I can keep making the bike feel fresh one part at a time. So anyways, yeah. Can I wash the stock air filter?

Just my 2 cents, but I'd just ride it till I could get a new one. I'm thinking whatever you use that would be able to clean oil off it, would also deteriorate the paper. Wouldn't be good having bits & pieces of paper sucked into your intake.

Also did breather re-route. Along with open air box it does smooth out. Also had remapped by Mike at Xoptiinside. Have my re-route directed to a catch can. When I drain it....the crap that comes out is remarkable. For that reason alone, it's worth it[up]

I can't believe how much condensation there is coming out of this thing! And to think this was all being sent back into the air intake! I re-routed the original mod I did, with a hose straight down the front of the engine into the chin fairing, and a T which takes another hose to the back of the bike, just in front of the rear wheel. This hose goes "uphill" to prevent oily water from contaminating the breather filter - works great! Gravity keeps all the crud in the front hose (effectively the catch can) and I regularly empty it via a small radiator drain-cock at the end of the hose. At first, the breather mod didn't appear to solve the low rev "cough" but having been riding with the mod for a week now, it has certainly reduced it.
