So I have read maybe 80 threads on the breather reroute, and I am going to do it. However, unlike most of the setups, I will be using a catch-can instead of a hose/filter setup.

My question is this: Even in the setups that I see where people use catch-cans, they still place a filter on the end. If it is a PCV system, why would you need a filter?

Even it was producing negative pressure for a short moment on each stroke, any dust it sucked in would be trapped in the oil in the line. And with it producing positive pressure the rest of the time, the contaminated oil would all wind up in the catch-can. Is the filter just there to catch spare oil? If yes, doesn't it just drip the oil that saturates it?

Maybe I am just missing something, but I don't want to do it wrong.

I think most people including myself do it to be on the safe side. Cheep insurance to keep the oil clean. But your probably right, if the line is any length at all any dust or dirt would get caught in the oil inside the line.

If you use a catch can with breather built in, don´t need filter, but if the catch can/system is completely sealed then the system will build up pressure and you have oil leakage from the Grommet/PVC valves.
correct me if I'm wrong!

Yea it has to vent, if not you could blow out a seal or a gasket and it will not move the gases and gunk out.

I know it's easy to bash BadWeb, but the thread I read over there cleared up my understanding of the breather fix. (Yeah, the search function over there's a pain, but I finally found it)
