Riding today I suddenly heard a funny noise that sounded exhaust related. Got home and saw that one of the studs and nuts that connects the front cylinder's header pipe to the engine was missing. I removed the other and saw that the stud is broken about 1/8" below the surface of the engine head. I sprayed some penetrating oil on it and watched a video on how to removed broken studs with easy outs. I know a good machinist. Should I try removing this myself or take it to the machinist? I guess worst case is that the easy out can break off. Is this a common thing with Buells?

don't try the easy out, not unless you have a torch to heat it up the broken part of the stud first. If you break off that easy out its going to be alot harder for the shop to drill it out. DAMHIK :D

[up] if you have never do this type of work i would recommend a mechanic.if you try it your self heres the tool you should use drill guide

its not that hard with out the tool but if you have never removed broken bolts before and you do it wrong it can turn real bad pretty fast

you don't need to buy a new head! just take it off then bring it to the machine shop they will drill it out and tap it for you. Or you can try to do it and hope it comes out for you. Worse case your taking off the head to bring it to the machine shop haha.
