I currently ride a Yamaha Vstar daily but I am considering buying an old Buell Blast to keep at our country home just to run the back roads . I am 5'10 190lbs will this little guy be able to power me down the road
Also how hard is it to get repair parts now that Buell is gone /
Thanks

heres some advice though, DO NO GET A BLAST. to each his own, but if you looking for something to get to a to b check out the gs500, it has a little more kick and better gasmileage

And better gas mileage - lol - step away from the tail pipe! Last I checked this thread was about Blasts not GS500s - why don't you go where you'll be appreciated for such advice - like a suzuki board or other white meat place - this section is about Buells - Blasts in particular - trolls are not welcome. Thats my advice.

How will the GS500 get better mileage than a Blast? The GS is around 50-60, doesnt the Blast get like 70?

Blast will be fine for your size, I've ridden one with a Jardine pipe and it was quite surprising :p

the blast will get nowhere near 70 my according to my buddy who had one, he said highest he ever got even when shortshifting was aroun 58, i get 60 sometimes on the suzi, to each his own, but for the power to mpg ratio the gs500 is 1000X better

trolling bastard get back under your bridge... yes it does get 70 MPG. I have gotten it & I am sure EZ has, don't ride like a numb nut and you will be fine. speeking of blasts anyone know who has a nice clean orange one in Tacoma?

Sounds like you don't have experience and that's the problem. Unless your "friend" is ashamed of riding the bike? Whatev, no worries Private, should't you get off the Gov computer and start working anyway?

That was trollish behavior, you where a dick for bringing it up. Last I checked this forum has a section to talk about other bikes, and this section is about Blasts. The GS500 has many pro's and cons, but that would be discussed in the other section. Also a stock Blast will and has gotten 70mpg regularly, however, most of the time it doesn't because folks like riding the piss out of them, and that is more fun than riding conservatively trying to squeeze the last drop out of them.

i had bought a blast for my second ex-wife (wasnt an "ex" at the time)and it got quite good mileage. it handled very nice, had enough power to get to speed and maintain it, and was relativelly trouble free. i thought it was a nice bike and a refreshingly different direction then what everyone else was doing. i was sad to see them stop production of them; i think they helped alot of people get involved in cycling that otherwise would not have. they were nice bikes for what they were built for.

I'm 5'10" around 160-170 lbs. The bike takes me around without issue.

As for repair parts, seems like, at least now, they are available. You'll probably always be able to find something on ebay with people parting them out in the future. I wouldn't rely on any dealerships/retail stores to have the repair parts you need. Online will be the way to go.

The Blast is my first bike and I was amazed at how easy it was to ride. I can really lean into turns when needed and I believe the previously owner even hit the foot pegs a few times when leaning.

In my opinion, it's not a fast bike at all. Acceleration, again, to me, is not impressive. I'm a newb, but first gear is usually a slow go for me. Once I hit second gear, that's when I start getting some acceleration.

At your height, I highly recommend you get a standard seat and not the low profile. The low profile was extremely uncomfortable for me. It may not be that bad if you have a long torso and short legs, but I have long legs and I felt like I was sitting in a kindergarten chair.

It's a cheap bike too. I paid $500 for mine and it's in good shape with around 13000 miles (if I recall correctly).

Oh, and I just got 65mpg when I had to switch to my reserve. I have a feeling I could get that higher with a new air filter.
