Buell brake system

Hello everybody.

I'm customizing my Harley V-Rod and I really like the BUELL front brake system, because it goes only on one side of the wheel. But I have some questions may be you can help me with.

-Is the brake system good enough to properly stop a bike? I assume it is because Buells mount it.
-Can it be mounted on any wheel? The one my customization will use wheels from RC Components.
-Where can I buy the full system?

The XB brake system, named ZTL (6-pot) or ZTL-2 (8-pot), is more than enough brake to stop a bike.

The Buell XB wheel is specifically designed and manufactured to hold the ZTL rotor. Many V-rod guys buy the Buell front end and install the forks, wheel, brakes, and other required bits. There have been several people who have welded ZTL rotor mounting points to other wheels but each one has been a custom job. There even was a company who made spoked wheels for the XB that accepted the ZTL braking system.

You can buy the Buell braking system new from a H-D dealer or EBR or used parts from any Buell XB. There are a couple aftermarket companies, Galfer and Braking, that offer wave ZTL rotors too.

keep in mind the caliper mounting position is different.
If you do get it done, I wouldn't mind seeing the before and after photos.

BTW, do you know if the wheel on the photo is a Buell wheel?

Looks like it. The same front wheel was used from 2003-2010 on all Buells (XB & 1125 Models) so finding a used one shouldn't be that difficult. Contact PaulPud on here. He has parted out a bunch of these bikes. He may have the parts you need. If you end up going with a new disc, we carry the Galfer Rotor from Twin Motorcyces. Let us know if we can help.

Unfortunately, the pics didn't come from a build thread so there's not really and details about the conversion.

I'm curious how this system would react to the extra weight of the V-Rod. [confused] You may want to lean more towards the ZTL2 just in case. Never bad to have too much braking power! Good luck!

Eagle H-D (765-448-9132) was carrying all of the brackets needed to convert the front and rear wheels over to the V-Rod. I'm not sure if they still are. They were consolidating that store and their store in Lafayette about a month ago.

Kosman's can widen the rear wheel for you.
