I am looking at buying a 07 Xb12r from a private owner. The fan is bad the seller has the new fan. The fuse keeps blowing. This seems to be a somewhat common problem. How long would this that to replace for an average mechanic? What worries me is that there is an oil residue on the fan. He says the dealership said it is oil vapor build up is this possible. I had read that many were having seal leaks that caused the oil.

Also Its an 2007 buell xb12r. D&D dual exhaust Billet aluminum pegs, 16,000 miles. He is asking $4000 firm. Is that a reasonable price

the oil is probably a rocker box cover that needs replaced on the rear cylinder. that's usually what shorts the fan. the fan is easy to replace, so is the rocker box cover if you do an engine rotation. for an 07 I think that price is fair for the minimal work it seems to need. but there's really no way of telling what the real problem is.

I'd bring 3800 cash and see if he bites at it

Give or take that asking price sounds good to me. For my '05 12R with 15K miles the dealer allowed $3K for my trade and along with $900 cash I took it home.
