Buell Hamster?

Hey i was wondering about something im about to buy a 2005 xb9r with 5900 miles. But the guy states that a "Hamster" mechanic did motor work on it to make it a 1200...i looked all over the internet and the only thing i found on the so called mysterious "Hamster Top 100 Elite Mechanic" was that the Harley Davidson Elite motorcycle club was called the Hamsters. So is this guy pulling my leg? How can i tell? Or is it complete bs?

maybe he replaced the engine with 1200 hamsters on wheels.

I would be very leary of this. Unless the cylenders say millenium or axtell on them I would call BS on it being bored to a 1200.

how would i be able to tell on the motor? because it has the stock xb9r firebolt logos still on it...

So i would have to take the head off and look at the cylinders?

Well on a Sportster 883 you can change the heads a get a 1200 because of the shape of the new heads. It's not the same with our bikes from what I gather.

well i rode the bike and so did my buddy who owns a 1125r and it runs like hell! (in a good way ) But i have never rode a stock xb9r and a xb12r to compare and then make the comparison to this bike...is there distinct differences in performance that would be redly noticeable?

A dyno run would tell you the difference. Save yourself a headache down the road, move on...

He should've known it would sound suspicious when he was going to sell it. If he did it properly, I'm sure he would've taken time to save all the paperwork and everything as it was being done for this exact situation. If he doesn't have any kind of paperwork like that I would definitely be a bit worried about it.

There's a VIN plate on the motor, compare that to what's on the VIN on the neck. Maybe he just swapped motors.

If you're looking for a daily rider I would also be very cautious about purchasing a 9 that has been bored out to a 12. Big bore kits rarely last long on these bikes, for one reason or another. There's a reason you rarely see them around.

Well i ended up buying it!!! So a proud new XB9R Firebolt owner! Told my girlfriend i found a new love lol... But i have the name of the so called Hamster and i called him and builds custom harley choppers!! and he said all the work that was done to it was by the buell guys in stillwater, ok so i just have to call them and get verification...But i gave my buddy with the 1125r a run for his money lol
