Previous owner threw in a set of Buell saddle bags and the Buell tail bag that goes with them when I bought my bike. I was checking fit last night and the saddle bags don't seem to fit very well on my '03 Lightning. Are these bags model specific? The way they sit there doesn't seem to be enough length in the straps that go across the seat to allow them to hang down far enough. Almost like my seat is too wide?

Thoughts?

Yeah I ran across the same thing! I have an 09SS and I know my seat is a little longer but idk if they are wider than models like the S. But I have to pull on the straps to get them to work. I even tried going under the seat but they get in the way of the seat latch! Does having the cheese grader chopped make a difference as to where the are susposed to sit?

the straps are designed to go under the seat. you just have to arrange them properly so that they do not sit on top of the fuse panel or the seat latch. it is going to be a little more difficult to get the seat on but it will go. that way they are locked to your bike. and they fit perfectly as well.

^^^ Rep to you, sir. I had tried to put them under the seat but I didn't try very hard. Will give it another go.

On a side note, these bags are rather faded from weathering. Any suggestions on treatment to restore the look and protect them? Armorall? Campdry?

your very welcome! let us know if it gives you more problems.

hhmmm, is the material coming apart? I spray auto detailer on my bags to clean them from time to time. I haven't tried anything for severe fading though.

Well, they are a kind of fabric like shell material. There isn't any separation anywhere, including on the zippers. But instead of black, they are more grey and have some areas that are rubbed and a little lighter. I have black detailer from Turtle Wax that I was considering trying, but I don't want to mess them up.

what seat do you have installed? could make a difference in how it fits...did with the tail bag, just something to consider...

Nice looking yellow! Is that the cityx seat in the top pic? I had the low, then went with the regular. Still not happy with the seating position and might have to pick up a cityx seat...

it is, came on the bike when I bought it, change it to the regular one almost two years ago. tried the low before and it sucked, wasn't comfortable at all. the regular one is just fine.
