Hi everyone,

I used to have a 2004 XB9 and I'm back with a 2009 XB9SX model here in Australia. Good to be back.

I am in the process of buying a sebring exhaust from EU and they have different models depending on the year of the bike. Now, there is a foot note that american XBs regardless of the age use the pre 2007 exhaust due to lack of cat converter. Does anyone know if Australian Buells use the EU specs or the US specs? I don't want to fork out $1300 just to find out it doesn't fit my baby.

I have attached a link to the website:

Also, I read somewhere that an adjustment to ECU may be needed for the newest models when using aftermarket exhausts.

Can anyone help/share their knowledge?

Regards,

Pawel

Pawel: there are several OZ board members who should know your cat con answer. i believe what you need to verify on your end is whether or not your 2009 City-X needs a cat con muffler to pass any inspections or emissions requirements in your specific territory. my understanding is that the cat con and non cat con mufflers for the XB's all fit the same. regarding your ECM(what you refer to as ECU)tuning is out of my wheel-house but many tuner experts on here knowledgeable in both tunerpro rt and ecmspy tuning methods. my personal experience is that a 2009 XB with an aftermarket muffler must also have a K&N air filter installed in the factory airbox to balance intake and exiting air flow volume. in conjunction a "ride in learn mode" for perhaps 50khms allows the ECM to learn and adjust fuel and ignition parameters accordingly. i have personally installed this combo on probably seven 2008-2010 models and all ran fairly nicely but i know there's more smoothness and performance to be had with tuning. hope that info helps.

Thanks! Yeah that makes sense, I always thought that the exhaust is different due to bike design but it seems that if they fit the same I would just go for the one with cat converter to fit the ozzie criteria. I already have the K&N so that's all good. Appreciate your reply! :)

Damn, $1300 for an exhaust that doesn't really show ANY performance gains over stock?

Measure the OD of the header right were it goes into the stock muffler. It's either 2" (most models) or 2.5" (some euro models).
