HELP!! Wrenching on a friends 2006 Buell xb9sx. Back story is that he bought it about 7 years ago running fine, brought it back and it sat for a winter and would crank, sputter, but not start next spring....... and has sat (same fuel) ever since.

I towed it to my place, battery was shot so I replaced it. Drained the fuel, pulled the fuel pump assembly and cleaned it up. The strainer sock was completely disintegrated.... so i replaced that and all rubber seals. Fuel pump went back in, primes with good pressure and delivery to the fuel rail. Pulled the spark plugs, no fouling and good spark. Pulled the injectors, cleaned them and manually tested them by applying pressure with a syringe and cranking the engine during which I got a good pulsating spray. Reconnected them to the fuel rail but I only get about 2 second of spray when cranking the engine before they stop pushing any fuel through??? Good fuel pressure still despite the lack of fuel. I replaced the injectors but still have the same problem. The bike will run for several seconds if I spray ether(bad I know) or gas down the throttle body intake. And it's throwing error codes 11, 5, 16, 23, and 32.... but seems to be getting spec voltage to the injectors with a multimeter???

I'm lost here.... only worked on carb bikes before, and this seems to be a simple fuel delivery problem, but everything checks out when manually tested..... any guesses, or high speed computer **** I'm overlooking???

I had the same story with a xbscg sat with the fuel in the tank for 7 years smelled like varnish, Long story short, I ended up putting a new pump in and it ran fine. Cleaned injectors, plugs ,oils etc......

Since it runs when spraying gas down the intake, I agree its a fuel problem.

primes with good pressure and delivery to the fuel rail

What pressure and volume are you getting exactly? It sounds like you did a fine job of flushing the old gas out, the fuel rail holds quite a bit and will clog freshly cleaned injectors immediately.

I only get about 2 second of spray when cranking the engine before they stop pushing any fuel through

Thats normal from what i've found.

You can find a PDF of the manual on Buellmods.com or Buelltooth.com for free

15 Intake air temperature sensor
16 Battery voltage
21 inter active muffler control
23 Front fuel injector
24 Front ignition coil
25 Rear ignition coil
26,27 clutch and neutral switch
32 Rear fuel injector
33 Fuel pump
34 iac
35 Tachometer
36 fan voltage
37,43 speed sensor
44 Bank angle sensor
45 side stand sensor
46 start relay
47 aux power outlets
52, 53, 54, 55 ECM failure
56 Cam sync failure

there is no #5 fault code kenny.
with silverrider on this one. i would do the following and keep in mind that an "in-tank" pump must generate pressure from 0 psi...then bump that pressure up against the regulator and in buell application maintain approx. 48-52psi. it's the "bump-up" that typically identifies a failing pump.
1-remove and replace 10 amp fuel pump fuse. it costs 10 cents and removes same from the equation.
2-turn on ignition switch....red run switch to on....do NOT start...let sit in that position for approx. 60 seconds. now feel the Key Switch relay. very warm to touch? it's either failing and needs replaced or the female fuse box terminals it plugs into are corroded.
your fault codes surfaced as follows:
16 due to constant cranking with a failing battery that stored very low voltage fault code
11 occurred due to 16 happening. tps unit lacked sufficient voltage to operate and dumped stored code into ecm
23 and 32 almost always generated in conjunction with failing fuel pump. i believe but am not positive those codes generated by injectors failing to see constant and consistent delivery pressures.
