Need some guidance on the matter. Never buffed out scratches. I'll be tradin my front end for another and the plastics that match mine are scratched. What type of sand paper,.. you know stuff like that, Thanks

Lol I didn't mean it that way. It might have come off that way definitely not meant how it looks. Happened to me more than a couple times. If anything I really like the concept. -the dousche way it comes off. Hope you get those scratches out

I used some McGuire's scratch X I got for my car. It worked really well at taking out scuffs from my foot hitting the pillion cover. And the little scratches on the airbox cover that occur over the years.

since i deal with auto body repair products all day let me throw in my two cents. if it's painted plastic it'd be no different than metal. the only issue is to see how deep the scratch is. the general rule is that if the scratch has gone through the clear coat then you really can't do anything except repaint. if it's in the clear you can buff it out. there's various approaches, but you'd be looking at starting at a minimum of 1000 grit paper. you should end at 2000, though you can continue up to even 5000 if you're trying to make it look great. CSI makes some great compound and polish in one bottle that'll make it look amazing.

just remember, buffing is the hardest part of the painting process. most people rush it and mess up the paint. patience is key!

if they are minor scratches, that Meguiar's PlastX works pretty dang good on a foam polishing pad on low speed. I've done it to my transparent blue plastics. even if you have to start out with 600 grit paper to wet sand the scratches out, then move to 800, 1000, 2000, etc. then use the PlastX polish as a final buff. the plasx is for clear plastics and it has I really fine grit in it to buff out all those tiny imperfections, but it works great on the buell plastics.

thanks, I thought about googling it, but... eh. The fairing I'm getting was scratched in a crash so I image it will need some time and patience.

I'd love to see some before and after photos from anyone who has done this. I have solid red plastics that were rattle canned white by the PO. I've thought about stripping the paint and buffing the plastics but only if I can get them looking really nice.
