BURNING OIL ?

I have noticed that my bike is using oil. In just a little over five hundred miles i have gone from just under max fill on the dipstick to just under minimum. I use amsoil 20w-50 with a dealer oil filter. Is this normal for Buells/V-Twins? Has anyone else had this problem [confused]

Can't say whether it's normal or not, but I have also gone from full to "Add" in about 500 miles, so at the very least you're not alone. I was going to post asking the same question actually.

my eats less with the breather re route and i ride hard roughly 1/2 qt per 1500 miles
was around a half quart per 700 before

I just picked up a xb12ss, the tech at the shop told me that during the first 500 miles I should expect to burn quite a bit of oil. So checking the level before every ride is important.....


Direct answer to your question, it appears to be expected.

I am always adding oil..Also the primary chain needs to be tightned all the time.
