Can I get a better price selling my '03 XB9R in California than Virginia?

Seven weeks from now, the wife and i move from Virginia Beach to Vandenberg AFB, California. The Air Force will ship all our stuff, including motorcycles, for free.

Dad's gifting me his '81 Honda CB900C that he doesn't ride. Amazingly, parts are cheaper and plentiful compared to the Buell, and my amazon wife fits more comfortably on the back. It's time to sell the XB.

I live at the Virginia Beach oceanfront and there's a great market for motorcycles, especially sport bikes.... but so is California. Yeah?

BTW: I traded a dusty, rarely-used gun collection for the Buell two years ago. I'm not concerned with making a fortune on it... but since the shipping is free....

I sold my 03 XB9R that I bought new last Sept with 15,000 miles on it for $4000 in San Diego.

Probably not an issue with an '03, but double check the DMV rules for bringing a bike to CA. Under a certain mileage, and they won't let it in the state. Might not apply if you are moving here? Only for residents importing vehicles? Not sure about the emissions part either. CA bikes have more stuff on them.

From CA DMV:
A nonresident vehicle was last registered outside the state of California. Anyone who brings a vehicle into California, or purchases a nonresident vehicle while in California, should be aware of the registration requirements.

NOTE:California law prohibits California residents or businesses from importing and/or registering a new vehicle with less than 7,500 miles at the time of purchase unless it meets or is exempt from California emission standards. If you acquire a 49-State vehicle (manufactured for all states except California) from another state or country, you may not be able to register your vehicle in California.

Hey I've been dying to get another Buell since I was dumb enough to sell my last one. I mean if you really want to give it to me I will take it. I'll even pick it up regardless of where it is.

I think I'll highball on the trading post for $4100 and see what happens here in VA. Then it's craigslist. (Rich dad browses the local trading post magazine while his penniless stoner son browses craigslist and emails me with dumb questions.)
