So I just got the green light to start looking for a good camera. Really want to keep it under a grand. I noticed that there have been some really nice pictures posted, So what are you guys using? Thanks in advance!!

Sony Nex 5,

keep in mind the body is cheap, the lenses are what kill your wallet.

I have a Canon Rebel Xti, if I was to get a new camera it would be

Link

My camera does a great job for what I need it for. wolfo is right the lenses are the part that will put a hurting on your wallet.

Droid razer max lol but I'm thinking of upgrading too so I'll have to watch this

iPhone 4s

IMO this camera is as good as my point and shoot camera. It surprisingly takes pretty good pics as long as you make sure the lens is clean. [up]

Iphone 4 will work just fine for the motorcycle riders. We are much to busy riding to have time for photo shoots.
37,000 miles on mine.

What kind of shooting are you doing? As mentioned, lenses are where they get ya. If you want action shots etc.; I'd say a DSLR, riding footage; GoPro or Contour, roadside pics; smartphone or a Canon point and shoot (powershot).

I have a iphone 4s and and it takes descent pics, just looking for something a lil bit better. It will be used for everything family pics, my do doing stupid shit, etc.

I got the Nikon D3100. Capable of taking pictures almost the quality as the bigger cameras. Plus it does videos as well. And it's body is pretty tough.

Any of the sony NEX range if you want great shots and a small body. I have the sony NEX-5N and my night shots and other shots were taken with this. I only paid $612 for it. The new sony NEX-5R is awesome and i want it. They also have the NEX-6 and the top of the line NEX-7.

If you are just getting into wanting to take really nice photos i strongly recommend those cameras. They allow great quality pictures and they are alot more portable and budget friendly then a DSLR. Plus they are very easy to use and have so many tips the camera can teach you itself.

Also video with the nex 5 and up are 1080p at 60fps. Better then most dslr's!

Bought a 60D about a year ago to go along with an older rebel XT. It has some features more for photography vs video, but still shoots 1080. The newer t4i looks to have better continuous focus for video, which is a weakness of the 60D, but again, I don't shoot much video anyway.

Don't have any shots handy to link, but will try to post some up....no Buell shots yet though..

Thanks for the info all. Looks like I have alot of reading and research ahead of me![up]

Get a used semi-pro or pro body. Stick with the tried and true Canon or Nikon (Canon user myself). Lenses available everywhere and built to handle unnecessary roughness. Canon 50D is a nice camera to start with if you don't care about video, the DSLR video is too wishy washy for me to care about it anyways. If you want video stick with a camcorder.

You may be able to find a nice used Canon 24-105 L lens to go with a 50D body for a really nice setup within the range of your budget.

Study the different sensors to make sure it's what you want. 50D has a crop sensor... 1.6x I believe, which means the 24-105mm will actually be 38-168mm.

Full frame sensors are big $$$
