Hi everyone,

. I just picked up an 02 blast for $200 to have a little project bike. The problem is, after a new battery, new ignition coil, new spark plug wire, and a new spark plug it still wont start. It sounds like it wants to but it just wont. I've been riding my r6 since 07 but this American stuff is new to me. Can anyone give me some ideas? I'd be very grateful. If your tip gets it running I'll send a gift card for dinner or something. I'm an honest guy. Thanks.

Clean you battery cables and you ground cable that is on the clutch side, that connects the motor to chassis. Clean you starter cables. I used a dremal to clean all the cable connections. Had same issue after I rebuilt a blast this past winter. Starts like a dream now. Another issue could be the starter relay. You can by pass this by taking the back of the starter off, 3 bolts. Then push in on the pin inside the starter. Just don't touch the sides while in there. There is a push button part that will bolt up to it. Try that and see what happens. Don't forget to charge your battery.

Definitely will give it a try as soon as I have a moment away from work. Thank you so much for your input. I'll keep you posted to see if it works. Like I said in the original post, I will gladly pay for your help if it solves my problem.

is your little blast "turning over" but won't start?
or does the starter motor refuse to "turn over" the engine?
if it is turning over but refuses to start then do this:
1-remove your spark plug. does it look dry or saturated with fuel? that's your first clue. now ground it. leave high tension lead attached. do this in diminished light area. now spin motor over. plug sparking? good
2-prior to reinstalling spark plug do simple compression test just to humor yourself. within specs? reinstall plug.
3-CAREFULLY fog your carb with starter fluid and try to start. now does it start? if so you have fuel delivery problem

Thank you again chief and lunatic, I tried both sets of instructions and still had no start. I'm sure you you guys at right on track about my problem, I must not be doing something right. I'm definitely not a mechanic so maybe I should pay one. Lol, if someone needed a house built I'd be the guy answering the questions. I'm really not giving up yet though, just ran out of time today. Any more ideas would be great. I'm also gonna try to figure out how to post a video of what I'm hearing and what I've done to try to improve the look of the bike. Its actually pretty bad ass but no good sitting still. Thanks again to the knowledgeable people on this site. Very appreciated.

make sure the rubber boot that connects the carb to the engine is connected securely and also make sure all the fuses located under the seat are fully pushed down. Probably neither is causing your issue but throwing it out there just in case.

I do appreciate it, the boot is new and the fuses are all in. I'll get it right one day. If not I'll sell it and buy something nice for the r6.

It might just be the tip-over switch. Pull off your seat, and look where the positive battery cable connects towards the back of the battery area. It should be covered by to semi-translucent bolt covers. Give that area a really hard smack. It should start up after that if it is the kill switch.
