Im looking to buy a buell and have narrowed it down to a 2004 xb12r with 7k miles for 4.5grand or a 2009 1125r with 2500 miles for 6500 was just looking for some insight on the 2 bikes cause im really caught between the two right now.

Yikes. Tough decision. Personally, I would go with the 12R, strictly from an aesthetic point of view. I am not a huge fan of the 1125's looks, and there is always the stator issue that seems to ruin some rider's experiences.

With that said, the 1125r obviously outshines the 12R from a performance standpoint. It's all going to be what you prefer. For an extra 2 grand you get 5 years newer and a heck of a lot better performance. However, in my opinion you lose a lot of visual attractiveness and may have stator issues.

As burton brought up, Ask the 1125 owner about the stator and If there is still a warranty on the bike.

It is a tough decision!

The 1125 is far superior but may be over engineered and or released to early.

The r is going to be easier and cheaper to keep on the road. The r will also be cheaper to customize.

I'm on my second s, first one was an 03 which I sold with 17k and never had a problem.
My current 07 ss has broken a header stud, 2 separate fork leaks and two belts in under 8k.

I'm curretly on the search for a cr myself but I've had 7 years of fun with xb's.

Well im not really scared of the valve adjustments only needed every 12k miles but what is the diff in real world fuel economy between the 2? Does the 1125 have much down low power?

Here is my thoughts, whats the first thing anyone does to a bike? They start doing mods. There are so many more things that can be done with the firebolt not to mention its 2 g's cheaper and thats 2g's towards mods.

They are 2 completely different bikes. I have owned and ridden both 1125's and XB's. It is all going to come down to personal preference. The 1125 is a faster and smoother bike. The XB is definitely a more unique bike though and a lot more fun for riding in the city. The 1125 would win at a the track any day, but the XB is just plain fun from stoplight to stoplight.

I as well have owned both. I love my 1125r way more than I ever loved the xb. The 1200 engine got boring and I wanted more. I have 11000 miles on the 1125 and not a single problem (its a 2008). It has so much power and with a Keda-Design RT-3 exhaust it sounds just like a race bike.

as someone that has an XB12 and an 1125, i can only say that its really a personal choice. also depends on what kind of riding you will be doing with the bike.

I have both as well. It all depends on the mood I am in on which I want to ride that day. Ur going to have to work on both of them no matter which model u buy. Its a Buell thing!

1125 has all kinds of power, low and high end.
1203 is more my cruiser gas mileage bike but still fun as hell to ride!

I guess this should have been in my original post but this will be my dd for about 9 months a year and will potentially be used for touring occationally which one would be more comfortable for that bill also my last bike was a cbr600 f4 with a stunt sprocket on it and i really dont want to dowgrade power wise from that would the xb even hqve the power im looking for?

Looks like you picked one! Welcome![up]

to the OP:
XB12 and xb9's are HD motors that have been upgraded for more power and performance. They are Sportster motors in the beginning.
1125 motors are austrian designed and manufactured overseas. They are assembled in the states by EBR.
Maybe this matters and maybe it doesn't but I felt this needed to be stated also as it is another difference bewteen the two mentioned bikes.

I have an 1125CR, 1125R, and an X1. I have friends with a XB9R and an XB12R. The 1125's kill them. With both you get the ZTL, ride setup and everything else you would get from an XB. It just does it faster. I will say though you give up some fuel economy and there are a few tech issues, but if you like to tinker its totally worth it. Not trying to hate on XB's just my .02

Id say the 1125R and talk him down to 6K and buy the EBR stator, and you wont have to worry about the stator again.

if your going to sport tour the xb will get better gas mileage

The 1125 are great smoother powerfull bike but relibilty is an issue with nearly all of them.
Hell i still miss mine but not the Break downs
My Xb has been nearly completly flawless and issue free.
xb=50 mpg
1125=35 mpg
